87-88 parts vs 89-90 parts?

Post by Rainmanoly »

What a rat #$%&er of a week I'm having.
1.)The transmisson on my 2006 Ford 500 craps out. $5800.
2.)I was driving the ascMclaren on Sunday, and I hit some black ice, and into the ditch I went. Thank God I was only doing about 30.

Sigh, I need the driver's side front fender, front bumper and supports, and a new radiator. Can I scavange an 87/88 for my 89? or is this a typical case of Ford being different one year to the next?
I wish blue jeans, old cars, and boots would go out of style.

The fender changed in 91?

I think you'd be OK.

I believe up to 1993 will be perfect in fit & looks.

Sandy, I believe the front fender changed in 1991 to accommodate the larger Cobra wheels. I would steer clear unless replacing both front fenders.

But, yes, the other stuff should work from 87-93.

There is one for sale (Front Bumper and some related parts) on Ebay right now. It has a 'Buy It Now' price of $125.00.

Good luck and sorry about your accident.

I am not really doubting, you, Mike - but R-U sure? I was told that 99% of all exterior body parts from 1987-1993 are one in the same.

Personally, I was not aware of wheel/tire combos affecting fender wheelhouse "cuts".

I too heard that in 1990 the front fenders are slightly different for tire/wheel combo's.

But all fenders 79-93 would bolt up

My only 'extra' parts are the 4 Gold Wheels I bought. Got them in case I ever bent up or tore up a rim. Got 4 for the price of 1. With some crappy tires on them.

The fenders are indeed different for 91-93 models to accommodate the larger 16" pony wheels (US Cobras made their appearance in 93). Also, the front fender extensions were different for these years.

90 was the last year for the 15" wheel so all Mclaren owners should stick to 87-90 Mustang fenders/fender extensions unless they want to increase wheel size. Thanks for the welcome, I've been lurking for the last few months but I have read all the posts to include the old yahoo group posts. Although new to the Mclarens, I'm not new to the Fox Mustangs.

The Mustang-based ascMcLarens are pure stock with regard to engine/transmission, etc.

It's all about the conversion from PURPOSE-BUILT (by Ford, on the Mustang assembly line) examples to ascMcLaren's desires, needs & wants. The Merc Capri editions - some have been found by original buyers to have the Ford B-303 cam in them (Speaking of the Coupes, only).
To view the "mules" (as they were called) is interesting!
Mustang LX 2-Dr. Sedans, 302 V-8, built upon GT Frames, Rr. Electric Defroster DELETE, All interior/exterior window mouldings deleted, Delete rear seat & side quarterpanels, and delete rear package shelf. The GT articulated seats, covered in CLOTH, ALL examples were Ford painted in black, UNLESS the car had blue interior & then the cars were painted White ! This, because the 'puter would spit out a blue interior ON a black car.
Yhey arrived at ascMcLaren's conversion center on Autry Avenue in Lavona Michigan.
