Help! Dead window switch?

Last night when I got home from the Good Guys fireworks show I put the top up on my 85, then started putting the windows up----that's when I found out that there was no life in the right (passenger) side window motor.

Why can't these things go haywire when the window is up?

I would really appreciate some guidance from any of you who have experience getting the paneling off of the door, & repairing/replacing a window motor in the early ASCs.

I took mine to a glass shop. No problem and it was around $140.00 to get it repaired.

Can you do some trouble shooting? My passenger window stopped working last month on my '89. Removed the switch from the passenger door and cleaned the contacts with some emery paper (the switch snaps apart). No go. Took the driver side switch out, cleaned the passenger contacts and its working again. Good luck!

Thanks for the tips Ken & Hank,

I will try to clean the switches before tearing into the door panel etc.

I want to do the repair/replacement my self to learn more about the inner working of these cars. & to save a buck if possible.

Let us know how it works out. Don't forget you can search a specific item on the web and finds lots of info and photos. I do it all the time to find out more about what I'm going to work on. I have even found youtube videos on doing repairs.

Update on window motor:
I was not able to get the switch apart to clean it without pulling the door panel off. (Definitely different than other four eye door panels).
Once the panel was off, I thumped the window motor with a screw driver & it started working again. I decided to go ahead & pull the backing off of the switch to clean the contacts while it was accessible. When I was finished, the tabs wouldn't hold the backing plate on, so I had to dab a drop of glue over two of the tabs to hold them in place. I was reinstalling the speaker, the door panel, etc when my cel phone rang so I answered it & put it on speaker so I could continue to put the door back together. The phone conversations must have distracted me, because when I got all finished getting the little panel pins back in the slots on my half eaten cardboard backing, and pressed tightly back into the door, I suddenly realized that my leather pull strap was still inside of the panel.

I tried unclipping the bottom of the panel to pull it through by reaching my arm under the bottom, but no luck.
I had to remove everything once again to get the strap to come through the little slot that it fits through, then reassemble everything once more. (those slippery little plastic press pins were the hardest part to get aligned correctly).

Sorry about the long story fellas, just to inform you that the window once again goes up and down as it should.

That was so much easier than removing & rebuilding the window motor, or searching for one like it, that works!
