Lincoln emulating 90s Pontiac design cues?

This is a place where we discuss anything BUT ascMcLaren cars. TV, movies, vacations, family, pets, girlfriends, college, school, OTHER cars, whatever....that kinda thing. Taboo is Religion, Ethnic Background, Politics.

Lincoln emulating 90s Pontiac design cues?

Post by bryan »

Taste is of course subjective, but this is an unfortunate design direction, IMHO.

I think that the front reflects a small improvement, and it looks good from the side. The rear is definitely a step back from the current car, however. The taillights are too bulky.

For what it's worth.........

I am a "Lincoln~Man" hacing bought new a 1986 Mark 6, followed by a 1998 Mark 7 and presently a Town Car (the best of the bunch!!). I would NOT purchase this Pontiac 6000 ! My 2003 Town Car Spring Feature Edition ("The Limited") is THE best car I have ever owned, bar none. Sadly the final edition of the Town Car (2011) was greatly Decontented of features. Shame.

I'm with you on this one, Sandy. If I didn't know that Pontiac was out of business, I would have sworn somebody just put the Lincoln logo on one. I don't like it (IMHO).

Actually, it's a gerneric design, looking a little bit like several cars, both domestic & imported. It probably is not offensive - but, the problem is that it does not go forward, yet keep the "Lincoln-Looks" ~ It's a "Anything car"
Growing up in a MOPAR family, extended MOPAR Family and a extended extended MOPAR Family, I truly miss the Imperial (s) ! I cannot understand Mother-Mopar. Almost every manufacturer has an entry into the Luxury arena ... Except Chrysler Corporation.

GM = Cadillac
Ford = Lincoln
Honda = Acura
Toyota = Lexus
Nissan = Infiniti
and.....Chrysler ????

Uh Sandy, Ford sold the Jaguar Brand and the Land Rover Brand to Tata Motors, in 2008.

Maybe Chrysler/Fiat has a new Luxury Car in the works? They do have the 300, which sells for a premium price and drops like a rock for resale value. An excellent used vehicle for the buyers!

Na, while the upper levels of thr 300 are nice, it's not a "Luxury" car.. It competes with Buick LaCrosse, and perhaps with the highest level of the Ford Taurus, the "Limited". I am thinking toward Cadillac DTS and Lincoln Town Car and/or Lincoln LKZ.

Take the most expensive "300" - stretch the wheelbase about a foot, give it every option, as standard equipment, some unique exteruor colors, ditto interior colors, more premium seats, REAL wood, a slightly higher rear axle ratio, for more "grunt" at lower speeds, buttery-soft leather,
and of course the signature waterfall grille....Viola... IMPERIAL.
Price it about $46 to $48, 500 MSRLP.

We only have 8 brands of American cars, today....
Cadillac, Buick,Chevrolet,,Lincoln, Ford, Chrysler, Dodge & Jeep. = 8

GONE = American Motors, Oldsmobile, Pontiac, Imperial, Mercury, Saturn.

I've always been fond of Lincolns, they've produced some great cars, but IMHO, they are going down the wrong track with their exterior design of their lines. The now gone Mark VIIIs and the LS were awesome. The MKS, MKT, MKX, and MKZ are just ok. Cadillac has really nailed their designs. They are elegant, sporty, and tough looking all at the same time, not too mention even having better performance (CTS-V anyone!!!). I think Lincoln needs to reexamine where they are going design-wise. :?

I generally agree. It would be nice if Lincoln would figure out what its design cues are and stick with them.

Back in the '90s, there was a corporate grill on the Navigator, the Town Car and the others. A few years later, Lincoln decided that the early '60s-type grill would be the new face of Lincoln. Well, that was short-lived, and now we have this Flying-V instead. Make up your mind, Lincoln!

One great thing about a Cadillac is that is always identifiable as a Caddy. Just look at the grill and the crest. Ta-da.

Oh my Gosh !! Some of you may know that I have "Special" People, in high places, some thru members of my now no longer living family members...and from time-to-time someone will write to me (Postal mail).

Yesterday I got a juicy one. There is a really good chance that a hemi will be fitted into a 10-inch longer Chrysler, based on the current Three Hundred, with a drop-dead interior of REAL CHERRY WOOD, the most expensive leather put into an American car, and many other changes, to front, rear and roof-line, for 2013. coming out in 2012 (December) . It's name? I M P E R I A L ! The car will carry a 5 year bumper to bumper 100% Warrentee.. When I locate the note I will return HERE and describe the interior.....

5 year bumper to bumper 100% Warrentee
American car companies are slowly understanding that people are willing to pay a little more for this. People will deal with some headaches in having to get the car repaired if it needs it, but only if covered.

Hyundai figured it out early. A good warranty goes a long ways to convince people to try your product.

The consumer doesn't want your tulips quality product dumped on them. They'll take it if you own any future problems.

Chrysler almost figured it out with the 7 year 70k mile warranty. Except they didn't do the full bumper to bumper warranty. Just Power Train. So they fought every repair my parents needed. They even tried to get out from under a known transmission problem. Your tulips designs shouldn't trouble your customers (like exposed wheel bearings that needed YEARLY replacement).

I don't think I'll ever consider a Chrysler because of that. I know my parents won't ever go back to them in a million years.

I have to laugh. THAT is exactly the way my folks thought of FORD products. A 1958 Thunderbird, traded in 2 years, with tons of trouble for a 1960 Mercury Park Lane, that broke down on the Garden State Parkway, with under 1,000 miles. After that, they went to Chrysler, and never left Mother Mopar, right up to the end.
