Now that I live in NY, I can actually drive mine there. No promises, but maybe I'll be around for this one! -Ryan

Hi all - well it looks like I will have the 85 done in time for Carlisle. I usually take my 2001 yellow Mustang and park with the other yellows, but this year I don't think I will.

What class do you register the ascMclarens in? Capri ?? Specialty?? I want to make sure I park with the rest of you. As for judging, I think we would do better in the Capri class. Any thougths?

I know one thing...the Capri's are not situated near their Mustang Cousins at all...which kind of sucks...

Yes register in the Mercury Capri class. We're usually parked out in no mans land FAR away from the 4 eyed Mustangs...

Boy am I spoiled. With the Yellows, we park right down near the grandstand. Easy to get to everything. I don't know - maybe I'll bring both cars?? It's only a 3 hour drive for me. It's just hard to keep an eye on 2 cars at once. I hate pis**ng away 40 bucks, but maybe I'll register both now and decide what to do later. :?

I can see from the pictures that the Capris are way up on the hill. I've been to Carlisle 4 years now and last year was the first time I walked up there (to see the Pintos & T-Birds!!). It really is a PITA. Maybe we can call the show people and asked to be moved?

depending on how an ASC registers, is how they are placed in the showfield.

ASC Capri -3 choices
1 - Mercury Capri (parked up on a slanting hill WAY away from everything)
2 -Special Interest - factory mods, inc police
3 -Special Interest - (pantera, kits, tigers & unique vehicals )

ASC Mustang
1 -Special Interest - factory mods, inc police
2 -Special Interest - (pantera, kits, tigers & unique vehicals )
3 - yellow mustang
4 - Black mustang

the big problem i noticed was that nobody verifys that the car is entered in the right class at check in. the people running carlisle just take the owners word.

about 2/3's of the cars in my class (2005-up mustang gt-stock-convert) did not meet the stock standard set by carlisle(3 mods or less).

OK. It's time to register. So in what class should I register my 85 Capri?? Where are most of you other Capri owners going to be? From past pictures, it looks like you register as Capris and not speciality.

We should all try to register in the same class

That hilltop in the back is not attractive. I parked in that lot last year and that's how I saw the ASC's. Otherwise I'd never have made that hike.

Can we start a Poll or something for this ?

From the first page

It is sad but the last couple of years the only McLarens I've seen are one or two in the car corral for sale. Always verts, never once saw a Capri ( though I might have missed seeing one). And as far as Mclaren parts, hardly anything. Last year I found a guy selling a broken fogged rear lens cover for $150!!!! Now I know Henry's are $250 but at least they are usable.

Anyway whoever is able to bring a car they do have a division called "SPECIAL DISPLAYS Special interest - Factory Mods #115"
Entry of your car costs $40 and includes two passes for the show.

Several years ago I stopped showing my McLaren just due to the fact that many show sponsors do not know how to properly class a special interest car, or have only one or two in a class as to reduce the number of classes.

The last major show I was at, I was placed in the Roush / Saleen class, I would not have minded that other than the fact the top 3 in class were brand new cars, one still had the window sticker in the damn thing.

I'm sorry, if you have a new car {one that's under warranty & you are making payments on} should only be allowed to display. I don't care about winning a plastic trophy, but when you show an rare & excellent condition ANTIQUE vehicle it should be recognized.

I showed mine for many years and always was engaged in peoples comments and inquiries. My fondest memory was showing at a World Ford Challenge show to talk to a guy my age with a 6 year old boy, the boy whispered to his dad "Dad, when I grow up I want a car like that!", dad replied "What a McLaren?" the boy replied "One with Orange Wheels", I laughed all weekend long.

Hope you all enjoy your show and get treated with the respect our cars deserve.

Best Regards,
Jim

You all know that I will NOT be there, and you all know WHY I cannot do that, but... I will be there in spirit ! Have fun, guard your cars and drive carefully both to and fro. Take some photos that I could look at.
