I Need Your Opinions On Tires
I Need Your Opinions On Tires
Hi All - I need to get new tires for my recently acquired 1990 Aqua. I bought new white rimes from Henry. I thought they would look good as the roof is white, the interior is white/gray.
And there is no other chrome or aluminum on the car.
Anyway, I am a bit torn on tires. I want something period appropriate but do not want to spend $300 a tire for Gatorbacks.
So I think I will go with the BF Goodrich T/A Radials.
So the big question is - white lettering shown (out) or hidden (in). The car came with blackwalls but the white letters might look nice. But this is more a road car than a sports car so black might be more appropriate.
At this point, I am just looking for opinions on what everyone thinks and why.
Thanks in advance!!

Already have the stock 7" wheels. So staggering is not an option. But I do like your thinking. I have 9" front, 10.5" rear FR500 chrome wheels with Nitto 555 on my 01 yellow Mustang. Badass for sure!!the jacK wrote:Stagger that. Widest possible tire on back. Little less on front. Badass

Hi!... Well, as you can see by the picture. I redid the stock wheels, and went with BFG's. Used same size all the way around, with black wall showing. I felt that these cars are different as are the stock wheels, so I chose to stay with them. But I could not go with the body color centers. You are correct in the fact that body color - wheels - and interior must all work together. The main thing being" what look are you going for as the end result". CocoLoco, You have good taste, So this will be " LOOKIN- GOOD" when your done !
OK. I have come to a decision. I ordered the T/A Radials and are having them installed black walls out. I think this will look best and be true to the original car. I can't wait to see them on.
Thanks to all for your opinions and suggestions. Greatly appreciated !!

I like it but can't do it. Keeping it OEM.the jacK wrote:5 lug upgrade. 17" rims. 275 on back 235 on front. And while your at it. Disc brake conversion. And get some weld in subframe connectors. Bump timing to 15.

Tires
Goodyear’s would have been the original brand but not the Gaterbacks. That would have been the Ford OEM but ASC pulled the Ford tires and wheels and put on their own.
The link posted above show BFG, Uniroyal and Coopers. All American brands. I would have gone with the Uniroyals. People have liked them in the past. I have had many sets of BFG t/a and hoped for better than average. I have them on my 84 GT and they don’t adsorb noise from bumps. Coopers would be my second choice.
