85 Dash Woodgrain
85 Dash Woodgrain
I'm getting ready to reinstall the dash trim, but need to get the original woodgrain repaired/refinished. Does anyone know what finish was used on the wood?

wood
Mine was in pretty rough shape. The cluster piece was broken, attached by screws and painted black. The passenger side was in one piece but warped and painted black. With the thin piece of wood, I didn't think it would be worth messing with. I just got the OEM fake wood panels for now. Looks much better than before.
The piece around the console info center was also painted black. I carefully pried it off and sanded down. I put 2 coats of semigloss water based poly and it looks great.
I'm guessing natural is the finish.

Just because I hate to see threads unanswered...
The convertible capri (at least the 85 and 86's) had a Teak veneer wood applied over a fuzzy black backing. To me looks most like the Burma Teak Crown shown here http://www.donearply.com/reconstituted-veneer.html

as I was driving the SC home yesterday..I thought the wood looked like teak. That was one of my questions in another post. I think teac looks best oiled, not poly'ed. I however, would like to know how it was done originally. It doesn't seem to have a sealer type poly finish...it appears to have been oiled. Well??
