Don't bother! I went to my Charcoal '86 to start & run it, while running I opened the hatch and peeked under the cargo area carpet. 2 layers of padding, plus the backing on the carpet. Your car is correct. I checked it against the museum piece

I'm in Northern New Jersey, and I can tell you that after TODAY (sunny & an Unseasonable 63 degrees) that the forcast is MUCH colder for the forseeable future, and that means until mid-April, right around Tax Day, the 15th. YOU in Wisconsin, I can't see doing very much unless you have a w-i-d-e and heated garage! I washed our Town Car today, and told my wife it was the annual "Last Wash" (not to be confused with the "Last Supper") !
I truly hate from now until mid April as I can't do my own car and to take it to a hand detail place for a wash costs $25.00 here, and they skip over as many places as they wash. In other words, they do a "I'll catch THAT next time" kinda job.

I ordered it brand new from Wayne Lincoln Mercury in Wayne New Jersey.
I generally buy from teeny tiny dealers (ya know 2 car showroom, 4 car bay, Mom & Pop ownership.....) but Wayne was a big mega monester dealer on like 20 acres....BUT I had to go there as they were the appointed ascMcLaren dealer for 3 counties. It's 14 miles West of me. Awesome sight, pulled in to see 17 ascMcLarens lined up, side-by-side-by side. Coupes & 'Verts. Allthough I didn't know it then.....I was looking at a few 1-offs and /or a few of which only 4 or 5 or 6 were made. ! I wanted the coupe, more than the 'Vert, allthough I wished I coulda bought both. The Vert I woulda bought was in front of me. The coupe had to be ordered. The Vert was ablack Capri 5.0 Automatic with black (dark charcoal) Recaros and black roof with the Gold rims and the Gold mid-section stripe, with the head & taillamps covers, ground effects and Whistler Radar.
My coupe has 2 options: Automatic & Power Door Locks. T-Tops are known to leak, so I didn't want them and the Pop Up Sun Roof didn't appeal to me. Had it been power sliding I woulda ordered it.

Well she is in the storage unit today. It will have to stay there at least until I can get the divider wall out of my basement garage. It is only one car now. Need to get some laminated beams so I can pull out divider wall to make room for both cars. I'll have to get some car dollies so I can move the 83 capri around to make room, but at least #108 will be home in the heated basement so I can tinker when the old lady and kids are driving me crazy. But for now she is safe and dry.

however, my feeling, if you make changes that can be changed back will not effect the value of your car to most people. Using an aftermarket exhaust system, better shifter, better gears etc will not harm the car in anyway and certainly will be considered a plus to many people . They can also be easily changed. I have many Mustangs and do not wish to build the fastest thing I can with my SC, but my lousy 86 heads will find a shelf, as will the 86 intake and TB. Once others are installed, everything will look basically the same. It would be very hard to tell I changed them, very. The stock 86 shifter can visit the garbage man and the 2.73 gears will be treated like an ugly step sister. Those changes along with a couple other subtle ones will have a better driving car that willbe about 1 sec faster in the 1/4 to boot.

hey petesponies will the stock 89 heads off a mustang work on the 86 block even with the flat top pistons? not sure if the valves would have a problem clearing.
