front licsense plate bracket

Post by Kyle »

Did the asc come with a front licsense plate mount? Base policy says that if the state the car is registered in gives you 2 plates, both have to be on the car and mine is registered in montana. I also wonder because I have an ascMclaren licsense plate, why would you need one without a bracket? I also noticed that the asc in the 86 brochure doesn't have the 140 speedo. I just broke out all the stuff I got with my car again.

Go to www.50resto.com. They used to sell them.

Early 85 cars had a metal bracket.

The plastic ones come up on eBay all the time. Easy to find.

I needed something to post for #100.

I have a nearly new metal one that I am hanging on to.

The metal ones are not exactly the easiest to find anymore.

Many people have screwed the plate directly onto the bumper cover.

There is an awesome bracket that mounts behind the bumper cover...(hence not ruining it with a licence plate bracket) it's electronic and retracts to be hidden...it's awesome...not sure if it's year specific though...let me try to find it...

The stock bracket attached on the stock bumper's rub strip. Without the bracket, people put the plat on the rub strip. I have never seen one on the air dam.

I like the one Mike posted...looks like it would be out of the way and non-invasive.

lic bracket

Since my wife seems to collect tickets for no front plate while parked, I made a bracket like Mike's but just a square shaped U made out of similar stock from Home Depot. It mounts to the rear of the front bumper facing the radiator. No holes in the bumper cover. I made sure to use flat head screws from the rear so it will not dig in if pushed to the bumper.
