1988 ASC McLaren Mustang Eurocoupe

Post by 1985 Motorsport Capri »

while on a visit to ford mo. co. in dearborn wednsday, i ran into an ASC enthusiast & struck up a conversation. he had a photo of his white/orange 86 coupe (FP) at his desk. turned out he has owned an asc capri coupe from every year (84-86). currently he is the original owner of his 86.
only asc coupe he said he would give up his car for would be an 1988 Euro coupe! yes you read that right. 1988 eurocoupe. i didnt think there was any 1987 - 90 mustang ASC Coupes, but there is.
he claimes there were 2 or 3 built. after putting up a little argument with him, i dropped my case & listened to what he had to say.
his story seemed reasonalble (said asc were looking for something to fill the coupe void after the demise of the capri.).
I called sandy & asked about them, he knew nothing. never even heard of any mustang coupes/euro coupes being made in 1987 -90.
i figured the guy was full of it. this morning he called me & left a vm telling me to check 2 old car magazine issues if i could find them. one from 1987, the other from 1995. both feature photos of the 1987 euro coupe. so i go & pull out my boxes of old mustang mags.
in the 1995 sept. issue of mustang illistrated, low & behold, there is a 1988 mustang coupe by ASC.
according to this artical only 1 was made. this guy claimed 2 or 3 were made.
as for the car, it is based on the mustang lx hatchback.
it is either black or dark blue (b & w photo).
has the asc mesh rims like the 88 verts have, ground effects (front & rear), has the front chin spoiler off the capri asc coupes, asc taillights.
other features include a decal starting at the top front fender going all the way back to the taillights above the door handle.
the quarter window has ASC McLaren in writting instead of Mustang.
the stock lx deck spoiler remains as well as the lx & ford emblems on the the hatch.

anyone know if these (or this) coupe has been documented

From what Sandy has said, there was just that one made, it was reverted back to its original Form and sold.

The whole article is on my website under "asc Literature".

I have never heard of any more made.
