to sell or not

Post by 86capriasc »

I'm having trouble deciding if I want to sell my car so I can buy an older mustang. My car as you may know is car 108 from 1986. It is in real nice shape but needs a few things to make it perfect, so do I spend money and repair it or do I sell and buy a car that I have really wanted for a long time. I am looking for a 67 or 68 fastback Mustang Gt. And if I do sell much should I sell for and were do I sell it, Ebay, local papers, etc..

As we all know due to that ugly thing called Eleanor and other factors as well the prices of 67/8 fastbacks has climbed fairly high for nice clean cars.
Hard to know what to do but it sounds like you do really want an early car.Factor in the ride comfort the power braking ability and all round things that you love on each model.
Honestly officer its only a four cylinder~!!

no I don't really like the eleanor look either, my dad had a 68 fastback gt with a 390 4-speed when I was four years old, but sold it when I was 5. Ever since then the I have always remember the sound, feeling of the acceleration, and how much my dad really loved that car. I have been a Mustang fan all my life because of that car. Now 25 years later I have the funds and the abilities to get one but like you said they are had to come across and there not cheap anymore. I may end up picking up a 66 coupe instead, there is one close to me here in WI. for 3 grand with the small six, but the body and frame are very clean with little to rust.

I'd say keep 108. 67 & 68 'Stangs are so very plentiful, but when did you see another ascMcLaren? At car shows you'll always draw a crowd. Then again......'ya know how I am with these cars... :spinhappy: :blob: :notworthy: :spinhappy:

Guys,

I just sold my 1968 GT Fastback (Glufstream Aqua with aqua deluxe interior, 302, C4, AC, etc) last year to clear a hole in the garage for a possible McLaren purchase. My 68 was a local show winner, but really needed some engine and suspension refreshing to be a national winner. In the end, I could never find enough time for her. When I figured out I had only driven her 2K miles in 7 years, that's when I decided to sell. The market isn't that great for small block GT's. I got $16.5K for her, bought her for $10K back in 1998.

Depends on what you want. I'd rather do modification and maintenance on a car that was designed to hold together for a bit longer rather than show and stock resto on a car that was designed to fall apart in 5-8 years.

Plus, everything is just "better" in the later cars. But, if you use that logic, go out and buy an 06 Mustang.

You are definately onto something here. I am also of the opinion why by an old fastback Mustang when you can get a brand new one that has similar looks, be the first to own her, have the ability to customize it to your liking, have better performance all around, drivability and be happy. Imo also keep the ASC, like Sandy said far less of these cars around that you see. Unless you get an awesome deal on an older Stang and can own both why bother?

well all, I have decided to keep the 86 and drive it until my 83 RS is finished then the 86 will have its turn at a resto. I just can't get my self to let it go. Today the wife had an emergency and had to run into town, but her Explorer's battery was dead so she drove Mclaren. (without asking of course ha, ha) When I returned from work the car was gone and I about crapped my pants because her vehicle was still here and I hadn't realized she was wasn't. So I went looking for her after noticing she was gone, I met her about half way in town as she drove by. Thats when I realized I just can't get rid of it. These cars are so unique and badass looking I just can't do it.
I guess I will have to sell some other toys. (too many)
