speaker replacement

Does anybody have suggestion for replacement speakers for the front and rear of the coupes? I would like to keep them kenwood or alpine brand. also what size are the front speakers?

The fronts are 3.5".

What size are your rears? Some are 6.5" round (like mine) and some are 6x9".

For my fronts I got some Kenwood 3.5" speakers. KFC-835C, I think they are discontinued....they are LOUD.

For the rears I got 6.5" KFC-1668s.

The 20 year old original square speaker covers fit over the new Kenwood speakers in the back.

Unless you amplify up the rears, the fronts will tend to be overpowiering. This is a problem it seems for just about any 3.5" front speakers. My solution was to make some LPADS to tone down the front speakers. I was going to amp the rears but the amp blew up. Once the fronts were "dialed" in so that they were balanced with the rears, things sound really really great now.

An LPAD circuit reduces the power going through a speaker by putting a resiter in series and a resistor in parallel with the speaker....while maintaining the same impedence.

A varibale LPAD is just that...variable. Turning the knob will change how loud the speaker gets.

In my case I needed a 4ohm LPAD since the KRC-2001 Kenwood is 4ohm and the speakers are 4 ohm. I had to wire 2 8 ohm LPADS together to make a 4 ohm one as there are nearly no 4 ohm LPADs made....and those that are out there are $35-$60 each.

I think it cost me $10 in parts to tone down the fronts to the level I needed.

I think that I will probably find a small amp to put up under the dash, inside and under the center speaker opening. I will probably replace my rear 6X9's and put the originals in a box and pack them away even tough they still work. The fronts are shot so I will have to replace them no matter what.

You won't find an amp to fit in that space. I have tried. The one that fits is the small 20W/channel Alpine that some cars got....and I am not sure why they had that as the head unit puts out that much power already.

I used to have a small pioneer amp that would have fit nicely under there but I don't remember how many watts it was.

Maybe somebody other than Alpine or Kenwood makes one. I only looked for those brands.

I think it was JCpenny that I picked up that small pioneer from but that was like 12 years ago so I am not sure. Yes I would like to find something in either alpine or kenwood also but that may limit options.
