coupe headliner
Is ther any where I can get some new material for my 86 coupe with a sunroof. My car car has a thin vinyl material that has seems to have shrunk and is now no longer covered by the trim panels. It is has also fallen from the backer by the hatch.
I had thought about getting a relacement cloth material and recovering with that. Wha t are your opinions?

My '86 Coupe (Solid Roof) headliner is of a felt-like texture. Thin nap, not deep. Very thin nap, as in you could not get a broken off pencil point to stick in it. I have seen such in a contact paper-type of material, where you peel off the backing & stick in place. If you could find such in light grey you could re-cover it all ~ but you'll have seams, because it doesn't come in widths as wide as the entire headliner.

I believe late model resto sells the vinyl and a kit to install. Cloth was used in 85.

Clarification
Some 84s used vinyl and sometime later 85-86 cloth was used. I don't know it they went back and forth. Most people think vinyl was not used until they look up there. Cloth seems to be the most common. Cloth can be found at interior shops or fabric supply stores in the correct width.

Felt material was definiely ONLY used for solid roof cars (~84 and on).
For TTOP and SUNROOF cars they continued to use the vinyl.
NON FACTORY TTop and Sunroof cars have the felt.
Of course now people will start saying otherwise but this is what I have seen pretty consistantly on FEP.
Try going to a FABRIC store. People have had luck matching that vinyl material. Other people have had good luck spraying down their old headliner with adhesive...LOTS of GOOD adhesive and thengently stretching the material so that it barely fits again.

Absolutely every T-Top car & most all Sun Roof 85 & 86 Capris ~ whether or not not ascMcLaren conversions have always always had FELT headliner. I have also checked, and found that they were all Ford installed T-Tops & Sun Roofs too !

Ha Ha, I'm lying ~ but now you see what I go through, frequently ~ does sometimes make one
You are correct, Mike, that's what I have also observed, i.e. felt with sold roof models, which WHY- I elected to omit any special roof and go with the solid, non leaking sheet of metal. {Besides, I have a secret "Felt Fetish"

BigZeke, you car is a study in contrasts. How come you do not have the ascMcLaren center steering wheel pad? I do believe it should. Also it's most unusual that your seats sport grey, rather than red piping. If it's a Full Packaged model it should have the grey that you have, if a EuroCoupe then red. Regardless it's a nice looking example, for sure ~

Sandy, since your car has never seen a drop of rain, I doubt it was because you were worried about it rusting.
Must be some felt fetish you have there.

It's seen alot of car washing over the years. Actually, in truth (now) she was in stock, how is, where is, and I would have preferred it the way it was. Having (as you know) been in the car business, I can tell you in the 1980Sss there was not a single NON leaker T-Top. Some only dripped a bit in heavy rains, others leaked in a london mist. Car wash usually was also cause for interior drying! So, I would not have ordered the T-Tops even **IF** I had a chance. The Pop-Up Sun Roof was a so-so, meaning IF it came with it, i'd have it. It didn't; and I've never missed it. Basically she came just the way I would have ordered it, i.e. Pwr. Locks and Automatic in Grey with Orange.
