Under hood Q

Post by jim paris »

Hey everyone— my ’89 does not have insulation under the hood, my dealer says they all did not have it. Should I install it since I think it would be better for the hood paint.
thanks—

I would. My gut doesn't trust your dealer's answer...but I suppose anything is possible.

You can get them from 50Resto the last time I checked....or your Ford dealer. They should all be Ford items as I don't think they repro them yet. Not sure though.

He's wrong. They all had it, at least when they came off the delivery truck !

Mustang cop cars never had a hood pad from the factory and the paint on my cop car hood was as good as new with a good buff and wax, same as all the other paint.

They also ran much cooler with better radiators, thermostats, and hoses. Didnt they also come with oil coolers or tranny cooler and this is a long shot phenelic spacers?

Stock radiator, thermostat, and the blue hoses were optional. Oil cooler also was optional. Phenelic (sic) spacers? The only upgrade to the SSP cooling system was a recalibrated fan clutch and flow restrictors for the heater core which were also used on the '93+ Cobra.

100k+ miles on this underhood, original never touched paint:

The blanket was mostly for noise abatement.
