I finally got my 1st ASC/McLaren . You have all seen it on Ebay and discused it here. it's a black 86 with tan top/interior. #52.
now I have to sell my 85 Capri RS.
Anyway, is there anyone going to the all Ford show in Carlisle, PA? I'll be there on June 3rd with thse ASC (weather permitting) along with my brother in-law in his 06' Saleen Vert.
It would be nice to get a few cars/owners together.
Welcome to our site, and best of luck with your ascMcLaren. I went to one showat Carlisle, It was a MOPAR show, and it was many moons ago ! Now with slight arthritis of the lft knee, it's impossible for me. I still go to shows, just smaller ones with less, much much less walking. For Carlisle, I'd need a golf cart. I know I would like your brother-in-laws 06 Saleen convertible ! Which model is it & which color?

I plan on stopping in at Carlisle on my trip from California. My vacation schedule has me with a layover in NJ on Friday 6/2. I know I won't see too may cars but that's all I could fit in. Haven't been to the show since I moved to CA 6 years ago.

You guys missed a hell of a show. I never saw so many Ford and Ford family cars in one place. I had the only ascMcLaren Capri there, There were only 3 other Fox bodied Capri there. A ultra clean and original 82 Black Magic, A 84 and 85 which both needed restoration. There was a 87 or newer ascMcLaren which I never saw until it was driving out at the end of the day.
BTW, My brother in-laws car is a 06 Saleen S281 SuperCharged 435HP Vert in Screaming Yellow.

NICE !! Coupe or 'Vert? Auto or Stick ?
I recently had an opportunity to buy a used 2005 Saleen S281 Supercharged 5-Speed stick in "Sonic" Blue - Very Very bright blue,
with black interior (ugly combo) but for the $$$ ~ I passed it up due to the combination of color(s) and the 5-speed stick. The owner lost job and was selling it as he could not make the payments. Mileage was 10,005

BTW, While at the show I met a guy who worked for Sikkens and was at the plant while the ascMcLaren's were being built. Unfortunately I didn't catch his name. He was telling me about how the interior floor bracing was installed. It was done by jacking the center of the car and welding in the brace then letting the car back down to ride height. Also all about the paint/body. He also said while he was there he met a guy named Jack Roush, and didn't realize until a few years later who he was. He wasn't sure why Roush he was at the asc plant.

Here's a pic of my car at the show.
Beautiful car you have. Is it a black or beige top? My car is possibly the same combo black on beige with black top. I wonder why they installed the brace that way did he offer a reason? Pretty cool story talking to the guy from Sikkens. I imagine it was about the same time Roush was working on the 25th anniversary Mustang that never was, a 351 Twin Turbo GT. I would love to have seen that hit the road back in '89.
Really nice car. Boy, would I ever have loved to speak with him, regarding paint. Too bad you dind't get his name & #. You'll regret that in time to come. All persons who were there when they were made are walking fountains of knowledge (and secrets) !

That was me. I had my Red Merkur at the show. There were a lot of nice Capri's and Mclaren's there. Good to see the turnout. That show is always a good weekend.
Just one question.
The 1987-1990 ascMcLaren Mustangs...How (or who) picked the
paint colors that would go on them ?
I can try to find out from some old contacts but that is a long shot. The story I heard was that the colors were selected from the Sikkens Color Map books. These books contain chips that are basically the spectrum of all the colors in solid and metallics. Each chip has more than one paint code attached to it. So you might see a chip cross referenced to a Porsche and a Yugo color. The chip is used to pick one color and then they choose a paint code that is close to that chip.
I don't know who selected the colors but I will ask my contacts.
Yes. I did a one year long trail & error time permitting search of the SIKKENS paint map and finally found (just curious) where each paint color came from. It was then, that I realized that the people at ascMcLaren neer really knew where a particular color came from. They'd give it their own name and their own code, and that was that..... I have it posted on this site, (somewhere). If I can find it, I'll post the link......Pretty bizare stuff.
