'86 ASC Coupe Auto on eBay

Post by Skip »

I don't know what Sandy's talking about, the Black and Silver/Gray IS a coupe. I talked to a Sandy when I bought the car. This is ONE of the nine automatics. I am not sure what he means by the 'one-off' This is an ASC McLaren as bought from the dealer. If this is what Sandy ment by 'One-Off' Thank-you

This is the one T-Top Coupe of 1986

When Sandy says "one off" he means it's a 1 of 1. Same meaning.

One off is a good thing a very good thing! Even though it has some fairley serious rust/body issues  what happened to your top bidder? Did it sell?

'86 ASC McLaren ONE OF ONE

Post by Skip »

No, the car did not sell. The car is still available. The person who won the bid brought a Ford Engineer with him. That decided that the old smell in the car was more than he could handle driving back to MI. Serious rust i question, there is rust under the driver seat of less than a 12 in square patch.

I have a question for the group.. Has anyone eles experienced in the fox bodies of a large person causing the driver seat to damage the floor in the left rear mounting location?

Quick Question?

How many ASC McLarens were actually made with T-Tops, from Ford:?:

For 86s, Sandy should have that info. For 85, we don't know but it will be very very small and for 84...unknown.

What kind of damage? A crack?

Cracks usually happens in the earlier cars because the floors can't handle the engine torque. Non turbo 4cyl cars usually don't get the floor cracks.

People strengthen the floors and put in sub frame connectors and such.

Usually a crack in that area is almost expected. If we're talking any other damage, I don't know.

If a crack started a big guy would probably make it worse...I don't think he would start it alone.

My 80 Mustang T-Top coupe has serious damage in this area. I think it was fairly common with most fox body cars, as I have seen others with the same problem. That's why SSP cars had additional reinforcement in this area. Just MHO.

I just went & looked it up. For 1986, Full Packaged ascMcLarens.... out of the 115 made, EXACTLY 9 (nine) left ascMcLaren WITH the Ford Factory Installed T-Top. I recently wrote (on this site) that it was 5 (five). That was from memory, and should be discounted. I spent 20 minutes just now paging thru data and the actual # is NINE !

4 in Midnight Navy-Blue Metallic
2 in Oxford White
2 in Smoke Charcoal Grey Metallic
1 in Raven Black
0 in Platinum Silver Metallic
9 = Total.
