Insurance Carriers?
Insurance Carriers?
Hey everyone—
Curiuos what company writes for our McLarens?
Been trying several, and including Hagerty, they all are turning me down since it is a specially modified car. Who will carry this car?

Wrong idea
I fell for the same thing. Actually the McLaren vert is part of the standard Capri sales brochure. Yes the whole modification story is nice but not to an insurance company. When you say modifications to them, they are thinking something along the lines of a jet engine. When I went back and explained the factory dealer brochure, they said oh, no problem.
I use American Modern Home under the name of American Road Services. This was a policy I got thu Ford since their normal company did not do California.
3 cars, $378 total per year. Most insurers should be about the same. Be sure to go with a stated value policy, that way you don't have to argue over your car's value (blue book).

Yes, that is true: Stated Value. I have mine at $18,000 apiece. But remember ......
#1 - they are 1990s
#2 - Mileage is 7,327 & 2,033 - so go accordingly
Grundy recognizes & acknowledges the ascMcLarens.
You will need to obtain a private apprasal taking the car with you, and like 10 pictures showing everything, for your file. I pay $1,000 a year, for 4 cars. 3 ascMcLarens and a 93 Sixty Special with 9,800 miles. Show Car Only Status.

Appraisal
I have found most inssurance companies do not require an appraisal for stated values under $20,000 or $25,000. I forgot which was the level.
It is good to get an appraisal to start and in theory it should be updated every 3-5 years. With the stated value policy, it is your responsibility to up the insured value if the value goes up.
Photos are good to to keep on file. I believe I had to send in a photo of all 4 sides.
85 Vert. insured at $10,000, blue book $7500, paid $3,500
84 SVO insured at $18,000, blue book $6500, paid $17,000
67 Tbird insured at $15,000, blue book $?, paid $?
Preminum $378 for all 3 with full collision.
It's tough to get classic or antique insurance if the car isn't close to 20 years old or really special. 90s cars could be a different story.

I use Parish-Heacock down in TN. They insure my Solo I 1993 SVT Cobra (but not when it's on the track). When I had my concours 1968 Mustang GT Fastback, they insured it as well. WHen I called to put the McLaren on the policy, they knew all about the car.

I called grundy this morning and they gave me a quote of 307.33 for the year. which is excellent for michigan, but has anyone ever had to file a claim? I recently had my Grand Prix catch fire. It was a total loss, State Farm took car of me right away. Grundy is less expensive than state farm but I want to make sure that they are there if I need them.
