Interchangeable correct peices?

Post by ASCMCLRN »

Does anyone know if the '92-93 Limited Edition Mustang Convertible windshield trim/molding is the same as the ASC McLarens?

Also what about the '93 Mustang Cobra's rear bumper, is that the same as the 89-90's? TIA.

Nick,

The 93 Cobra rear bumber WILL work...not sure about the windshield frame though...I know the Capri's are special since Ford wasn't making vert's then but not sure about the Mustang's...I'm sure someone will chime in

EDIT: the Cobra rear bumper will mount fine but the moldings will be different...The Cobra has the GT style molding where-as asc's have the LX version...HOWEVER, I think Cervini's makes a Cobra rear bumper for Lx's...:)

Well, does the moulding stop at the base of the windhshield? If so, I suppose it would have a chance of fitting.

Remember all vert windshields were bent back 20 degrees so most of that stuff around the windshield is all custom made.

Mike I noticed the other day and made a footnote of it here that it appears all the 87-90 ASC's use both LX and GT bodyside molding at the same time. You can see the difference in many pictures posted. Henceforth the middle section moldings are LX and outer are GT.

Other Mike (we should asign Mike I Mike II etc.. lol jk) c

Very good point this might effect the base. There is a link to what I had purchased below. Looks like it might be a lil problem what do you think? Also after looking at some of these pics it looks a little narrower then the McLarens. What I do like about it is that its seperate pcs vs the ASC which is solid and tends to have stress cracks that spread until it breaks or you have to replace windshield. Oh well if it doesnt match up its not going on and I can think of it as a learning lesson taking one for the team so no one else makes the mistake. If it does work perhaps we have a nice alternative. There is a nice website for these car owners with Ford part numbers listed somewhere on there too. I will post more links below. Perhaps we can link up with their site too. Also I noticed they've been tracking the sales of these cars at places like Ebay so members can get an honest answer on what their car may actually go for. Check it out below too.

The ascMcLarens of 1987 thru 1990 utilize the LX width indentation side & rear moulding, while the cars were fitted (by FORD) with the GT front fascia, so the front moulding has a slightly wider indentation. It is hardly noticeable. If a 1990 is equipped with the ascMcLaren option (new for 1990 at $49.00) of the 360-degree "Bumper-Body-Bumper Tape Stripe", and you look at the front - from the side - you can see the slight differance in the width of the tape stripe, but...you really have to LOOK !
