Engine Replacement
I have the ability to get every thing listed below for a good price. Please help me determine if this engine will fit with out having to do sheet metal work etc to get it to fit right. I am not worried about electrical. It is a 5.0 HO but some of it is 97 some is 88 etc. My car is a 86 Vert (Capri). Or as my state title calls it a Mercury McLaren. Thanks for any tid-bits of information. The reason I am changing is a rod knock, several broken waterpump bolts, leaky rear seal. The list just keeps going.
97 302 block, fresh main and rod bearings, new timing kit, rubber reusable gaskets, Explorer short timing cover and water pump. chrome oil pan, chrome valve covers, GT40 heads(straight plug), GT40 explorer intake(upper and lower), 65mm TB and 90 degree TB elbow, Explorer fuel rail, 19lb Gen III injectors(orange), Engine is short block to ease installation but comes with all gaskets and NEW ARP head bolts.
97 Explorer serpentine brackets, used AC compressor, Used PS pump and resevoir, NEW 130 amp alternator.
T-5 WC transmission, All covers removed, inspected, and regasketed, Replaced shift forks with new ones. Bell housing, clutch fork, and block plate included.
NEW flywheel
NEW stock replacement clutch
NEW IN BOX Adjustable clutch quadrant, adjustable cable, and firewall adjuster.
2.5 inch Dual exhaust with one chamber Flowmaster mufflers. Made for a stock mustang.
87 Mustang Fuel injection harness, some sensors NEW IN BOX, and 88 Remapped MAP ECU(no rev limit), Map sensor. Comes with 19lb injector MAF and harness to do the conversion.

a 302 is a 302, it'll fit, and then some, so will the tranny. you could cram a 429 in there if you wanted to.

Guess I missed that. Not sure what a straight angle head is. do you mean the plugs come straight out? You might need some different headers. If no one here can help, try the site I linked you to earlierProjectCapri37 wrote:Thanks for the reply. I have concern about the straight angle heads.

Only concerns I see is the oil pan if it was originally on an Explorer as it seems and the wiring harness swapping. Other then that the heads were used on the '93 Cobra called GT40 heads and GT40P heads on the Explorers. Many people use either set of heads as an upgrade from their e7te truck heads which was stock for '87-95 Mustang. Another thing you may have hypertetic pistons vs forged if its a post '92 block. If that is the case you may have to notch them if you decide to do different mods for clearance. They also dont hold up as well with power adders. Hope this helps.

Thanks ASCMCLAREN. This is going to be a basic upgrade from the tired 86 Speed Density 5.0 HO. I miss my 85 GS T-Top Capri. It was a 5 speed and I want to go back to a manual. Sorry Sandy, I am not goint to change the car much, but I want a dependiable daily driver. I did some checking on the heads. They will need headers from MAC or someone else. The last concern I have is the height of the Explorer intake and the hood. I don't want to put a scoop on. I love the sleek lines of my car just fine. Got the wifes OK so I am plunging ahead. :D
Especially if the vin is stamped on it like it probably is. They only make 1 of those.mandra wrote:If the one you pulling out with the rod knock and the busted bolts is the original try to hold on to it if possible. In the off chance that you want to go back to stock someday it is priceless.
Good luck

Thanks everybody. I will put this new knowledge with what I have researched and put on a keener eye when I go to purchase the goods tomorrow. I did find out heads or he 3 rib type. GT40 not P's The oilpan is a rear sump for a fox. Not sure what type cam is in it yet, but if it is the Explorer cam I will upgrade.
