I bought a set of 88 seats to recover and install in my 85 only to find the seat springs and cables all rusted and broken. Anyone have luck with doing a repair on these?

I have one of the lower seat cable/spring busted in my 85 seats. I was just going to have somebody weld it since it was one wire.

For one cable it would be easier to crimp on another cable like a splice.

I'm afraid the 88 McLaren vert seats I bought are junk. The covers are ok but have been repaired. You probably saw them on ebay, tan with black inserts. The winner bidder never picked them up. Maybe he looked and them and walked away.

Take them to an upholstery shop. Show them the damage and ask how much it will be to fix. I would ask them how they go about doing it...most places will be helpful and explain the process and maybe even sell you some wires to try the repair yourself.

I imagine those things can be replaced with the right wire and crimping tools.

You are probably right that they can fix them. My plan was to buy some newer stock seats and recover them with a new leather kit for $595. I paid $185 for the seats but if I take the covers off I might find the frames rusted thru. One already looks twisted and the cables rusted due to exposure. I didn't want to spend $1000+ on seats. I'm afraid the shop will laugh at me.... Maybe I will give it a try.

They won't laugh. They might "wince" though.

Think about all the 1930's-1940's seats they probably get to do. People drop off junk and expect them to redone to perfection....and they make it happen.

My Mom delivered her 1929 Buick Marquette to the upholstery shop and that interior was in TOUGH shape. A few weeks later, it all came back looking and feeling brand new again.
