Yes I put the striping on before I knew that Eurocoupes didn't get them. I like the looks of it with them on that I don't know if I want to take them off. Didn't know anything about ascMcLaren till I got on this form. Bought the Eurocoupe in 1997.

Okay, that explains that! But....the seat covers? Did you also install them? Did this car come from NorthTown L-M in Kansas City by any chance?

No I didn't install the seat covers and It did come from Northtown L-M in Kansas City. The striping and the front air dam is only thing I have installed.

What is it ? I dunnno

Seriously, I can't figure the freakin' car out! {I guess others can "see" that I am confused, too} It's a portrait of contradictions.

Like, Okay, I'll tag along with it's a EuroCoupe and all, BUT EuroCoupes ALSO got the ascMcLaren leather padded steering wheel center horn pad. But, that could be chalked up to installation error..... But it's those seats that blow me out the window. GREY PIPING ! I am hinting to him now (newest post) that I'd like to have his VIN so I can "dig into it". My feeling? I smell a full packaged car (D32) ~ but why the lack of striping, since Big Zeke says HE did the striping. But, was there a pencil thin single stripe in the 360-degree bumper-body-bumper moulding ? NO!
So...... again door slams shut. It's got me stumped, as of now, until I get all the pieces of the puzzle. (Maybe..... MAYBE then)

I really need the VIN. I was (for a moment) also thinking it was an out of stock '86 Capri 5.0 in Grey, that they half turned into a McLaren. But.....NO, it can't be because of that damn piping. All RS also had red piping. Stripes & ground effects are easily added or subtracted, horn pads can be lifted & switched around.....but seat covers? Not normally.
I am thinking until I get the VIN that it's a full packaged car, ordered with all stripes omitted (this was possible ~ I have a black one on the registry with original owner who requested no decals, logos, nor stripes.)
Northtowne probably swiped off the rims (probably anthracite) put 'em "in stock" and put on the OEMs. But, what happened to the black out quarter windows ??? The CAN NOT remove them!! No way! The frame they slide into is pop rivited to the actual body (quarter panel), and the holes would stand out big time!! !! So, Sandy's lost. HELP, send HELP, send VIN !

619692 is 100% without question positively a EuroCoupe. It's a Northtown Lincoln-Mercury one, so, yes, anythings possible. But while that address' the wheels, lack of striping, lack of head & taillamp covers, and lack of quarter window black-outs and complimentary black out "vent-ports" ~ it leave a giant hole for an answer regarding the grey piping.

Bigzeke, look under hood, in the front, where the metal body build code tag is & see if there is a SECOND metal tag on which is reverse stamped:
ASCMCLAREN
ASCMCLAREN COUPE

Like the above.

By the way it was the 39th of 47 EuroCoupes. It was 1 of 11 Euros in "Smoke Charcoal Grey Metallic"

It was recieved at ascMcLaren on August 6th 1986 and was shipped out on the 14th of August '86. It was converted at asc on 10th August. It arrived at Northtown L-M on August
24th 1986.

The seat piping remains a mystery.......

So, okay it's a perfect EuroCoupe that L-M put the wrong seat covers on. Actually I like the matching grey piping alot better than the vermillion red on the Non-McLaren regular Mercury Capri RS.

Hey Sandy, I think this grey piping has possibly popped up on at least one other EC.

I know it is totally understandable that L-M could mess up once and a while when building these cars but do you think it was possible that if the customer wanted the grey piped seats that they could have special ordered them when they ordered the car? Either getting them separately or having L-M install them at the factory?

Possibly, here would be how....

Car get ordered by ascMcLaren, under D32. Car gets built at Ford, as a full packaged soon to be McLaren. Car arrives at asc. Car sits. Program ends. asc makes car as a EuroCoupe. I guess anything can happen, but all of the VINS around it are not F.P. Capris, and have the orange/red piping. However, The Full Packaged one's VINs began with a PREfix VIN of 603 and ran thru 619, while F.P. Euros began about mid- 619s and run thru late 619s. Incomplete Euros start at 619683 and run thru 619744. So, they do appear to be made in groups......BY MERCURY
