I don't know it you understand how it really works. I explain just in case. When you close the tonneau it should be with the pull down motor in UP position. The hook of the top should go in and kind of clic on the little tab but loosely. When you pull down the motor the lever mechanism inside the tonneau push on the tab and pull the hook in to tight the top down. Do not clic the top in when the tonneau is fully closed. Let the mechanism do the job.
GOOG LUCK!!!!
Back of vert will not close
Thanks for that as I probably don't since this hasn't functioned since I got the car. With what you have stated then I think I need to replace my pull down motor as well. I can push up and it will pop up but when I hit down on the switch I get nothing.
On a positive note I was to better align the Tenneau when I took it off. before I had this quarter inch gap along the it and the trunk now its nice and flush.
I take my small wins when I can.

Your pull down motor may or may not need replacing. There are two limit switiches within the wiring harness for the motor and switch. If I remember correctly, one senses if the trunk is open and the other senses the tonneau cover. They may be preventing the pull down motor from activating.

towards the bottom of the page there links to a convertible wiring schematic, photo, and a legend. I believe it is directly for the Mustangs, but I think it mostly applys to the Capris as well (excpet for what pull down motor was used).
If anyone can confirm my vague memory, please do.

Keith is right. The limit switch can be a problem. Also lately my car has come with a new problem. My top switch will unlock the tonneau but will not lift the motor when holding the UP arrow. I have to hold the down arrow after the tonneau is unlatch to get the motor up. You may also check if it would work for you. I still have to check that on mine but it is easy to live with the way it is, so it may take a little while before I fix it.
