There is a production date stamp on the cradle.

The date is stamped on the bottom center. If you look at the large hole on the right/passanger side "it's kinda like a triangle"on the inside/center edge you will find a date stamped

Which may help

Is there any way to determine if this is truly an ASC car?

Here's the probable vin... not much to go on

Thanks CHAZ. I didn't know you could search in Carfax with just a production #. Cool.

The car fax info states the car came with a 2bbl 5.0, but my decoding resources show the engine code "M" is a 4bbl 5.0. Which is correct?

I forgot about the buck tags...

Just looked, there are no buck tags.

That part of the Carfax info is often incorrect - it should be a 4bbl.

Make sure on those buck tags - they can be bent upwards pretty good.
You've got me thinking.. What's left on this car? - Does it have the gray interior with the seats?? No pics of anything?? :?

No such thing as a 2bbl from 83-85.

There's a good part of the car left. The interior was gray. The seats are not the typical gray cloth with gray piping - they are a gray leather or vinyl with ascMcLaren embroidered into the front seatbacks (very dry rotted). There's a few pics of the seats are in my album.

Those are vert seats (non recaro of course) the back seats are interesting- but I don't know that they match - possibly SVO back seats??

Is that the side ground effect in that one pic (w/ stripe poss?)

That material and pattern is the same on the front and rear seats.

Yes, you can see a small part of the side skirt and tape stripe in one of the seat pics.

Looking at the pictures, two things stick out -- 1. Leather wrap on the wheel , the horn pad is switched but I don't think you could get leather on a 5.0 Capri.

2. On the bezel above the glovebox in the top R. corner, that is where the brass plaque was put after it started coming off the side of the car (I think coupes & verts had them in the same place). It's less faded than the rest of the bezel meaning it was on there for awhile. It might still be in the car somewhere...

What about the hood- does it have the grills or the sml. scoops?

Yeah, that wheel is definitely an asc wheel. The only other car to get a leather wrapped wheel is the svo.

85s did not get a plaque on the dash. Only 86s. No idea on 84s since none have surfaced.

Can you get a picture of the fender tags?

That is unexplainable. As far as I knew, no 84 85 or 86 COUPES could be had with leather. Until that car, none have ever surfaced.
My 1st thought was that someone took the seats from a coupe and recovered them ... but these are the correct sew / stitch pattern, and are split in the middle (correctly) and have the ascMcLaren logo in the front set backs. I have to say it's original, but....how & when & why ?

Sandy, you didn't miss the pic of the scoops, I just added it this evening.

What is this car? What would I be restoring if it's an undocumented car?
