Problem Solved
Again guys Thanks for all your help with this. Its great to have a bunch of experts in a car club to turn to! I pulled the cover off the front dash of my 86 Capri and found out that some one did make a switch. The part number on the front panel is E3ZB-61045C90. Which means its from a 83-84 with the Turbo option. The wood grain was glued on some time ago. I will just have to keep an eye out for a 85-86 panel and order up the wood grain from Henry who has the parts!
Thanks again ( still working in the garage at 10 degrees)

......"" I THINK the ego boost plastic red piece over the bulb was the wrong piece installed. I think it was for an earlier Capri - like a 1991 or 92 with a Turbo engine. I am pretty sure of it. That would indicate that your dash panel had been replaced with one from a junk yard whose color matched your interior. There was NO Turbo-equipped Capri model in 84 85 or 86. I know for sure, my 1986 does NOT have a light saying EGO BOOST. She is a 302 V-8 with Automatic Tranny "".

Re: Problem Solved
This is not a part number. This is an engineering number for the panel. Other parts attached to this panel may have their own engineering numbers. The entire assembly would have a different number which is the part number.capri50asc wrote:The part number on the front panel is E3ZB-61045C90.
Sandy, the EGO BOOST is not able to be installed separately. His entire dash gauge panel may have been swapped.
Since it is a 1983 engineering number, that rules out the SVO or 1984 Turbo GT panels. So it must have been a 1983 Turbo GT/RS panel.

This is exactly what I said. Refer to the 5th comment of this thread.

Dash Panel on 86 ASC
No,
Just the dash front cover was switched. Speedo goes to 140mph All gauges and gauge housing are stamped with a 85 part number E5 in the begin of any ford or mercury means the year it was built. Dash is tight and shows marks of being removed
C is for the 60's
D is for the 70's
E is for the 80's
F is for the 90's
I pulled the dash panel out to replace a blub The dash cluster is stamped on the printed circut 1-1986 This car was converted on Feb 1986. Everything is original. I know how to read these numbers. I feel that some one ripped off the original face off the dash to get the Pecan wood. Any way I can make look perfect!
Take Care!

Dash in 86 ASC Mclaren Post in error!
In my last post I noted the dash was removed. The dash is tight and looks like it was NEVER removed. Car looks to be straight and clean . It even has the original exhaust!

1984 Mercury Turbo
Hi Again
Mercury did make a 1984 Turbo Only 1,321 produced all had the 2.3 Liter engine with the turbo on the passenger side of the car. See Collectible Automobile magazine Oct 1992. I also have a picture of one all painted in Charcoal gray with a cool red stripe around the car! I believe this is where
my dash panel came from.
Take Care Chris

Re: 1984 Mercury Turbo
Yeah, but in 1984 the panel was a brand new aircraft style and would have had an E4 engineering number on it.capri50asc wrote:Hi Again

The E3 engineering number with the turbo light pegs it as being a 1983 panel only.

Was the wood grain easy to put on the air craft style bezels?
I was thinking that it would be easier to put the wood on the earlier (or GS) styled gauge bezels as they are flatter.
If that's the case, might asc get some of the earlier bezels to use instead?
It isn't impossible to swap those light covers over from a newer bezel to an older one...only takes a second with a hot iron to loosen up the heat welds. It's just not a normal thing to do.
Can anyone confirm that they have the wood overlay on the aircraft style bezel for 84/85/86?

My 85 vert uses a black satin bezel like what came in my 83 Crimson Cat; and it even has an E3ZB part number.
My guess is they used leftover 'plain' bezels instead of the aircraft style since they would be applying the wood to it.

Thanks for all your help
Thanks to everybody for your "detailed" information on the dash cover problem. I think Mike hit it on the button with it being a 1984 panel that should be on the car. If any body else has some information let know.
Also The Mercury Dealership that I purchased this car from on Dec 21 2009
Wants to buy the car back, for double the money I purchased it for. A family member in the dealership wants the car. I received a phone call today and stopped by the dealership and was put into a closed door meeting. "What would it take to buy it back" Guys! It has 16,000 actual miles Never titled. They stored it in a heat garage for the owner of the dealership who has past on. ??????????/

You all do know that 1984-1986 Capri(s) ordered to become 2-seat converts, were actually GS and not RS models, BUT equipped with the 302 V-8. (Unless it was a 1986, specifically ordered with the six cylinder engine.)
So, I assume the face plate on the dash was different. Yes, or No ???

GS or RS 86 Convert ?
Sandy
In your e-mail you stated that all convertibles started out as a GS model? I put my 86 ASC on my lift and it has the quadra-shocks. just like my 86 Capri 5.0L has and the large stabilizer bar. Could my 86 ASC have started out as a 5.0L (RS) ? Back in April I almost purchased an 85 Capri GS with the Option 5.0V auto. The order stated on ebay that it had the single shock system in the back. I thought when you ordered a V-8 in a GS ,you got the quadra shocks and the stabilizer bar as a package.

Quads
Quad shocks came out about Jan 1984 on the SVO and then later on the GT350 Anny. cars. By the 85 model year, all V8 cars came with quad shocks and continued through 93 models I believe.
