My choice would have been a 86 vert red on tan with tan top. Fully loaded with recaros and deluxe door panels and full exterior package. No matter how rare or common it is, they are my favorite.

My choice would be exactly what I have. '86 Red vert w/ Tan interior, every option in and out and tan top.

I think it's one of the prettiest cars I've ever owned. No one knows what it is though. With the Vette I can see the young kids drool!!

NO yo ucould not have it !!! Only 1986 Coupes from ascMcLaren could have it. 84 & 85 were D32 ONLY, precluding all else.
photo with the model on the roof is a Sunroof car & the sign says 1985.

yeah i think we have seen some 85 coupes with the sun roof. not sure about the t roof. someone here has an 85 with factory sun roof.

$25k was a lot in 1984. It should have gotten them to repaint the car."

EDITED !! below

I don't exactly understand, what youa re saying.
If I knew what I know now...

I would call up asc and ask for a yellow 1984 Coupe. I know they would balk but I would request that they take a white t-roof hatchback from Ford, repaint it in a Yellow Sickens paint like they did the verts (leaving the black trim), then do a full coupe conversion on it with black stripes and wheels.

You could only do this for 1984, since 1985-86 had the charcoal trim which would not go well with yellow.

If I couldn't do that, I'd do an 85/86 Midnight Blue coupe with the orange stripes and TRoof.

Sure, it was THE show car - but dealers could not get it FROM the factory! D32 allowed nothing deviating from any other order. All were 5-Speeds, Oxford White or Dark Blue Metallic, only Orange stripes/decals/logos.
Air Conditioning - normally optional, was included. Power Windows weresrandard on all 84 85 Capri(s). Power Locks were not & were not included on 84 85 D32 Build. All were 5-Speds for 84 85. All decals were Orange on both colors.
Factory standard Radio/Stereo were DELETED in D32. Blank Face Plates can be found in many 84 85 Coupes uinder the front seats. No Sun Roofs or T-Tops for the general public.....UNTILL 1986, when D32 ALLowed OPTIONS. adding exterior of Raven Black, Smoke Grey Metallic, Silver Metallic, joining the Oxford White or Dark Blue Metallic. Power Door Locks became an available option, as well as Automatic Transmission, Optional Axle Ratio, (with Auto) and T-Tops -OR- Manual Pop up Sun Roof. These item were installed on line at the Ford Assembly Plant and were on the units when they arrived AT ascMcLaren at Autry Avenue Conversion Center.

Hello, This a good exercise. So here we go ,Like someone earlier , " I'll keep mine the same color " . I like the whole idea of being different , as in , " WHAT KIND OF CAR IS THAT ". The color could be a bit bolder , But I've learned to live with PARIS BLUE. Just dosen't sound... MANLY. Oh well. Was at a show, and a woman said ," My car was pretty ". I will say , that hurt! But all that said , I keep my 'vert as is , thanks .

"Paris" Blew ~ is NOT Manly??!!

Peter, I am sure that the Roof & Locks were dealer added.
I have the 1985 paperwork, and it explains that NO FoMoCo
options were allowed ! I am going on that !

The were RS 5-Speeds in Oxford White or Midnight Blue metallic,
with the srtandard interior, in the Grey.

In 1986, D32 was lifted, and Pwr. locks, Sun Roof, T-Tops and Automatic Transmission were "allowed into the club" .......

Sandy's turn

Post by Sandy »

Okay, me turn. I would keep my coupe exactly as she be.
I would keep my 2 'Verts exactly as they be.
I'd buy one more..
I'd buy a 1989 is Summer's Tan, with the Sandy Beige interior and the 1989-only Dark Chocolate cambria cloth roof, with all the correct options.

and I'd buy a 1990 in Coral Red pearl with the Claret-Wine cambria cloth roof & the new-for-1990 "Opal" interior. (Much Much lighter than the former grey leather used in the 1989, 1988 & 1987.)

But to do that in 1989/1990 I woulda needed a whole hell of alot more money, than I have. There was 1 Coral Red car made, and NO Summer's Tan made, not even one.

Yeah but we have at least 85 coupe here with the factory sunroof code. So they did build a few.

Seems like the ones that pop up with options happened toward the end of 1985. So I think your paperwork probably holds true for the initial run of 1985 asc coupes...but it looks like things loosened up at the end of the 85 production run.

Could be, but other than the 1 or 2 owners on here, I have 37 pages, 10-to-a-page (or 370) McLarens listed, true more Mustangs than Capris, but still a ton of Capris, on the listing and I have not 1 '85 with a factory T-Top. I have 4 with pop-up manual sun roofs, but each owner admitted to me that it was owner installed. I have located no 1985s with power door locks. I have found several with Pwr. Locks (factory) On EuroCoupes!!
(But, again, thery were 1986s...)

Car Girl, there were 3 exterior blue colors, for 1988s.

A medium blue was "Regatta Blue" a Very bright vibrant blue was Azura Blue and a navy blue was Atlantic Blue.

Which is yours ?
