Well I checked this weekend and the fog lights I have were installed by using one of those plastic wire splicers that cut into the insulation. It was spliced into the wires heading into the headlights.

So I think it is safe to say that these headlights were either installed by an owner or a dealership.

My car is #76 which makes it an early car in the 86 production run. This fact coupled with what Sandy said about the air dam, fog lights, and ground effects being an option for verts late in the production run, leads me to believe that these lights were definately added on.

I will have to get the 2nd front end down, out of the attic, and start comparing it to pictures of other 86 verts to see if it is the correct front end for my car.

I think I will just remove the lights, I think they are pretty much junk anyway, and not worry about the switch. I am pretty tall and it is difficult enough getting in and out of the car without a switch hanging down under the dash. I would probably just end up breaking it off sooner or later.

LOL.... I had no idea that a simple fog light switch question would spawn so much conversation....LOL

But I sure do thank everyone for there input.

Well, splicing them into the headlight harness is the WRONG way to do it.

The headlight wiring is BARELY good enough to run what it needs to already. I'm a little surprised your headlight switch hasn't burned out or the wiring hasn't started a fire.

The fog lights have not worked since I have had the car. They are not completely hooked up. Who knows, they may have never been completely installed, ever.

But they will be in the trash soon

DaytonaTim, I had to really laugh at this comment of yours:-

Tim, it *IS* an ascMcLaren, E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G about it spawns alot of comment...here, at least, and I find beauty & passion in that aspect of ownership of these strange but beautiful cars. You are now, more than ever, a full fledged owner !! Let's talk about your gas cap, by the way.... :D
Sandy passed away in 2012. He will be forever missed.
