'85 vert on Ebay

Post by MHISSTC »

I'm thinkin' about this one:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... Track=true

It looks nice and clean and has been with the same owner since new!

Maybe I'll get rid of my Cobra and start collecting '85 Capris?

I already have a GS, know where I can find a T-top RS, and there seem to have been several '85 asc Coupes that have come on the market lately.

For whatever it's worth, this is my favorite "McLaren-on-E-Bay" - for all time! Now, know this, it was on e-bay about 8-9 months ago and was a no sale. At that time, as well as now, I can find no faults. Everything is original and correct. The wood, the seats, the head & taillight covers, the ground effect skirting, etc, etc. It also has EVERY option, including the Sport Appearance Package, the heated Recaros, the Auto Tranny and more. The upper bodyside blue accent pin stripes are incorrect, and were either dealer done or this seller done. The CORRECT stripe is like 1/8th inch in height, and runs 360 degrees around the car, in the body side and bumper's indentation, and would be dark blue. It was called the bumper-body-bumper stripe. It was standard equipment.

If you want it, don't lose it. Examples like this one are exceptionally few and far far between. I think he is an honest seller as he mentions the exhaust leak......

PS / EDIT / In a 2nd look, I do see the original bumper-body-bumper stripe intact and on the car, properly!

The auction concluded at $7500 with one bid.

I didn't get it, but I did manage to purchase an '83 Capri L on Friday.

I'm sorry you didn't get it. Of the 84-86 Capri 'Verts, it's the best, most original I've come across in at least 10 years. I woulda bought it for the "Buy it now" a week ago, but I have too many cars. 3 McLarens, a Jeep, a Classic Cadillac and a daily driver. Out of car $$$ and out of storage.
It's like trying to dance, with no music! :(

One Bid

Post by Agent-J »

I actually purchased the car and it was everything and then some per the description. The family that owned the car since new with all of the documentation to prove it and on top of it all the family was great to deal with super nice people.

The bumper cover needed some work due to something rubbing on the cover when they transported it from Arizona to Wyoming nothing major just a wear mark in the paint and one of the tail light cover was damaged beyond repair but he had a new that he threw in.

The exhaust was an easy fix the day I brought it home I had that done.

The only item that I can find that where not original where the battery, battery clamps, and oil filter that is it even has the original date code spark plug wires.

I hope to have everything straightened out for the Dream Cruise this year, hope to see you there.

Oh I almost forgot the car is awesome!

Thanks for your time, Jim

I'd trade you my 86 EuroCoupe #13 and my silver 85 GP IV for your Cobra.

Agent Jim, best of luck. IMHO you bought 1 of the 3 most perfect McLaren ever offered on e-bay. The car is so original, it's like it was just made. (I hope you'll continue it that way.) Tell me, what waswrong with the exhaust and how did you correct it?

If I had the $$ & the room, I would bought it. It took that man a loooong time to sell it. It was on e-bay (I think) like October of 2005.

Best to you

SANDY

Sandy, Someone had tried to fix the air tube the connects to the catalitc converter by brazing it (not good) brazing good for arts amd craft hour not exhaust. My exhuast guy ended up cleaning the brazing up and welded a bung onto the converter then reconnected the air tube back to the converter.

It looks brand new

P.S. The pervious owner shot an additional 50 photos that I requested that never got posted online. I believe this is what held the bidding to one.

Thank you for your option it really means a lot.

The upper pin stripes (on the Front & rear ) fender blisters are incorrect. They were dealer or owner added. If they are tape, i'd remove them. The wider one on the front/rear bumpers and bodyside moulding (dark blue) is correct !!

It's the only one i've ever seen in white WITH the head & taillamp covers.
