Just throwin' this out......

I just recently checked out the website that focuses on the GPIV cars, (I had never heard of them before, very interesting), one thing that impressed me was the fact that the host/historian has kind of a "geneology" of every car that was produced, where its at, who owns it, condition, status, etc. Now I know that they are dealing with alot less cars, what 15???, but has anyone (Sandy) or ??? attempted to document/locate where all the ASC Capris and Mustangs are and if there still alive? I've heard that thru the years there have been quite a few wrecked.

Every so often I'll come across one not found in an ad or the internet, usually in some kind of lowly state. The last time was about 5-6 years ago I was passing thru some small town(don't blink) in Ohio and this po-dunk used car lot had a yellow '87 sitting right out front. I had to stop. This thing had seen better days. It looked as if someone had lightly wrecked it and replaced everything that was damaged with standard GT parts. It had pony wheels, a gt wing, regular tail lights, many missing interior and exterior fascia parts. (Actually maybe it had been stripped)

I suppose this is would be a monumental task considering there are over 2500 cars out there. I know a registry accomplishes alot of what I'm talking about, but what about the totalled, wrecked, or stolen not recovered cars. ???

IF they don't call me, e-mail me or postal mail me, I have no way of ever knowing. The Factory? (ascMcLaren) ? everything they had they gave to me, but many things were thrown away before I came into the picture.

Forget about it. Can you imagine trying to locate a few thousand cars in the first place? Then consider how many times these cars may change hands, get wrecked, reserected, or stolen? Keeping all this information updated let alone acquiring it. Its way to much work for any one person or group of people. Then you also get people that do not want information posted on their cars and they have every right to their privacy. Imagine how many people would either try to contact them in regards to selling their car that is not for sale, the potential thief knowing were you live, or who knows what else.

Even if you contacted DMV for statistical purposes to see how many of these cars exist with out releasing personal information you would not get an accurate answer as they are only aware of the registered cars. Same with Sandy he only knows of the people that contact him.

I have received telephone calls (some in the middle of the night !) from 1985-1990 ascMcLaren owners, living in the following places:

All 50 States of the USA, Including Hawaii & Alaska !
Canada
Holland (There are 2 there)
Israel
Mexico
Paris, France
London, England (There are 3 there)
Switzerland (1 - A beautiful drop dead georgous 1990 in TRIPLE black, i.e. interior, top & body, with photos....)
United Kingdom
South America
New Zealand (8 units- Converted to Right Hand Drive.
Australia
Germany

So, you see, they have trickled away to all corners of the world.

Few are the cars that could be described as "Showroom new mint concourse pristine flawless condition".

I do have all of the color breakouts, and all of the serials #s and the total production #s.

Capri Roadsters have taken a beating, and don't seem to fare as well as the Mustangs. Flip Flop, many mint Capri Coupes !
1988 Mustangs are (for the most part) trashed. Many many many more near mint 1987s. Go Figure, Most 89s & 90s are from very very good to "new".

I have 56 pages with appox. 9 - 10 per page, so around 535 listed. Been doing it since 1986.

and to reply to the NEXT  question, No I don't own a scanner, and I do not have permission to print people's names, addresses & phone #s.

Been doing it sooooo long, several owners have passed away !
Car accidents, illness, drugs........ Youngest owner listed was 17, oldest is still with us, at 82 ! Average in their 30s. I'm a mighty fine 59

Really? From what I have seen, I think it's the other way around. The coupes have been thrashed and trashed. Seems like the verts come up very often in good shape. All the coupes need a lot of work.

Mike, not the ones I've located :( Ya, Coupe need work, but the 'Verts in many many cases are beyond help. Look on here, for example, Mine and Bensalem Mikes come tro mind along with several others. I cannot recall very many show quality 85 'Verts.

Guys, I have setup some special topics to try and make an asc database on this site.

Initially, quite a while ago, I thought I might write an entire piece of software to handle the job. I sat down and drew out what it had to do and realized, if I could modify the forums a bit I could get what I thought would be wanted.

What I did, was break down the subject line into VIN and Sequence # and put some general items in the text area. I validate the VIN and check to see if it is already in the system before a new one gets posted. This should cut down on the need to police that area.

What we will get is a SINGLE Dossier for a car....that anyone can add information about. If you see an asc on ebay...go ahead and add it, add the information from the auction. Upload some of the pictures to the album HERE before linking them in. If you link straight to the ebay auction...in 90 days, we will have only the knowledge that that car was on ebay and no pictures.

The success/failure of the database is totally up to the asc community here. I am just trying to facilitate it...and make it a tad more organized and useful.

I am open to any comments or suggestions or even changes. Please read the STICKY in the guidelines first (you will see it through the link I put at the top of this post).

DATABASE DONT LIKE ME

Post by Sandy »

It will only allow each user to list one car. I tired 3 x to do tjhe blue 'Vert and it keeps telling me that I errored in the VIN. I didn't & how could I error 3 X ? I think (Hunch here) it will only accept 1MEBP (Capri) codes as that's the shown example. Check it out. I've been awaiting someone, anyone to list any Mustang McLaren and see if they get on. So far...either nobody tried, or, like me, tried & cannot....
