Correct Paint Color for a 1985 50SC Aircleaner assembly?
Correct Paint Color for a 1985 50SC Aircleaner assembly?
I am contemplating stripping and repainting the air cleaner assembly on a 1985 50SC it has some chips in the paint and I need to know if anyone knows the correct color?
It looks to be somewhere between a semi gloss and a satin black.
Thanks, Jim

The red on the McLarens was used on 3 prior cars:-
The Audi A4 Series of 1997-1998 where it was called "Laser Red" ~ Code H1H1
The Porsche Red of the 80s & 90s & possibly into 2000 where it was called "Guards Red" ~ Code POR-027
The Red on the final year 1989 Merkur XR4Ti where it was called "Radiant Red" Code 0P~
It had some orange in it, that is missing from the Viper Red.

87ASC Is it just me or was the question "What is the correct paint color for an 1985 50SC" Not what color would you paint yours

Black
I use Eastwoods Chassis black on everything under the hood. It covers well and holds up better than anything else I've used. Technically, on the 60-70 Fords, there are several blacks used under the hood (fender aprons, pulleys and brackets (Japanning) and painted preassembled componets). The 80s cars seem to use only one semigloss black. Gloss black looks out of place under the hood.

Re: Black
I have several NOS air cleaner bases for 85 5.0s. I media blasted a pair of snorkels, primed and painted with Eastwoods underhood black are an exact match to the base. I have even touched up a very good used base with the paint and the color is seemless and a perfect match.svo413 wrote:I use Eastwoods Chassis black on everything under the hood. I don't have a can of Chassis Black but I bet it would be similar.

Yeah, his post is out of place, but things rarely go in orderly fashion around here. Hope we got your question answered well enough though.Agent-J wrote:Thanks Mike for your help
