I Have edited what was here. I spoke too quickly, without enough thought. I have changed my mind.

After much thought, my opinion is that a person who signs on, should be given 12 to 16 months. If they have not made any posts or perhaps just one post over a year prior, then they can be assumed to have left, and/or have no interest any longer, and therefore their account could be deleted.
Some people are shy to come forward & post, but read alot. But I'd like to think that we are friendly enough for that "feeling" to wear thin after a while.

I think that actually from #156 on down to the end, many of which could be cleared away, except for the handful who are new in the last 5-6 months........

Yeah, I cleared them out.

I am not too worried about it now. I have implemented a spam mod for this board.

It has kept the spammers from getting any real information into their accounts when registering. It has blocked many spammers so far but some "dumb" bots still make an account anyways that will need to be deleted.

I have another fix I thought of and may try. But I will not publish it as I don't want it known.

I locked the Welcome area down a little farther. Seems like they finally figured out that area was fair game.

There are about 40 people with 0 posts. I will let their accounts hang around 1 year with no activity. "No activity" doesn't mean not posting.

The simple act of logging onto this site will bump your last activity date. There are people with no posts but do log into the site once and a while to read. Those people's accounts will stay....because they are still active even if they don't post.

There are people who have registered and haven't been back for 6 months. Their clock is ticking....

People with even 1 post will get to stay forever for now.

Thank you Mike! Not that you need me to agree or disagree. Many people register at sites and will lurk for a period of time. They just do not feel an urgency to comment or chime in on another's post. I am not managing this site, however I can appreciate your willingness to allow others the opportunity to view and lurk on the side. Not much gained by turning people away merely because they have nothing to say at the moment. I lurked at the old ascMcLaren Yahoo site for quite some time as well as on four eyed pride before being forced to post on FEP to keep my account active!

Not sure I like the idea of being forced to post, but that is the site administrator's call.

A little kindness can go a long way...

Well, I don't force you to post.

All I'm requiring is that people come back after a year and simply log in. They don't have to post or even read anything.

If your account doesn't have any activity for 1 year and has a ZERO post count, I assume that it has been abandoned. If the person does come back after 1 year and finds their account gone, they can always recreate it.

I'm w/ hanksgt. I don't post cause I really don't have much to add to the great dialog the regulars have going on. I'm just learning more about these great cars!

I believe after 6 months of no activity the account should be deleted with an emailed warning notice first.
