Mexican Mustang Convertible

I ran across this over at FEP in a Mexican Mustang thread

Odd. It has Capri fenders and Mustang unflared quarters.

looks like a home made top cut job but could be wrong?

I have seen some Mexican Mustangs from the '80's era that had the whole body of the Capri (including the bubble back) but were labeled as Mustangs. I have also seen some that had all Capri bodywork but had Mustang noses and hoods.
If you browse that classified site that this convertible is on, there are few on there.

I have been puzzled by this before because I have seen two different '83 bubbleback Mexican Mustangs that were advertised as original but one had the Capri nose, and one the Mustang nose. Obviously one is not but since then I have been on the lookout for Mexican Mustang brochures to settle this curiosity but haven't found any yet.

What you haven't seen though are Mexican notchbacks with rear quarter flares.

It seems there was just about every other combination of swapping of Mustang and Capri parts. Whether all of them were called Mexican Mustangs or some were called Mexican Capris...I have no idea. But I think I have seen about all the combos. Mustang bodies with Capri noses, Capri bodies with Mustang noses, Mustang bodies with Mustang noses...etc etc etc

One thing I haven't seen though are any notchbacks with the rear flared quarters....that just never happened.

Brochures don't seem to be readily available or I would have them...

I have a picture of a Mexican notchback with capri front, fenders, quarters, but I cannot find where it is....still looking. It's my color, charcoal grey with cougar aluminum wheels !

The price is $48,000.00. Ouch. At first, I thought that be pesos (though I have no clue as to the exchange rate), but it has a dollar sign in front of it.

Mexican Fox Bodies were like that. I have pictures of several ! They wore Capri fronts and Mustang backs and the the front fender blister, but none in the rear. They were almost a perfect combo mating of a 'Satng and a Capri. They did not have the fastback (or bubbleback) of the American Mustangs and/or Capris. They were all based upon the notchback 2-door sedan Coupe. It was odd seeing this bodystyle with a Capri front end and front side fenders. Very Odd indeed. The brain rejected it, big time! Who cut the roof on this is unknown, but it could have been asc, as for a while I do recall they had either offices or a small facility in Mexico, and later closed up shop. Possible, but unlikely.
