ASC/McLaren Model Car?

I asked the GMP rep at the Barrett-Jackson show if there was any possibility of a 1/18 scale model of our cars. He said they would have to make a run of 500 models minimum. If they got 200 to 300 responses they could look at making it. I think an '88 would be a good model since it's the largest production year. I don't have an '88, but would settle just to have a model out there.

Thoughts?

Tough call! I really think the owners of the Capri based models have more pride and appreciation for their vehicles. I know I would seek out the Capri and ignore the Mustang, but good luck...

Now that would be cool. A ascMcLaren Mustang model. If they made one I would definatley buy it

. But you do have a good point 200-300 respones on the same car would probably do it. So if you get everyone from the forums to say something they just might do it

not sure I would buy a Mustang conv. There are already some models of them out there. Sorry guys

Sure, I'd be in for 1 or 2. Then I could pitch the one I made 17 years ago out of a mustang GT I modified.

I can't see how they wouldn't make the Mustang since so many more were produced, but if they made the Capri too, GREAT!

OMG Thank you, thank you, thank you! Hank you ae the man! I always wanted something like this to happen. I was looking at ways to try and find an old Revel two seat vert model and fix it together with a newer aero fox body. I also purchased a special edition '92 convertible and a coupe GMP to see if I can modify it into one lol. I would certainly take a few and pay extra for a stand that has my plaque number engraved on it or leave it blank and I can etch it in.

I am not sure but does GMP have an existing Capri already? If not unfortunately those who desire one might have to pay more cause of how limited it will be.

Lets face it they made what 150 hatches in real life and GMP needs a min of 500 to go forward? Perhaps they can share the platform with some Black Magics, RS's and other Capri's to make up the numbers? From there they have the interior for a Capri vert, front end, rear tail lights, I dunno maybe just solving the Capri hatch and having a Mustang vert will enable them to make a Capri vert too?

IMO '87 and '88 can be the same cause they virtually are aside of the miror on the door, antenna location, cig lighter, and they can always get around that by saying it was an early '88 model lol. All they do is print a different year on the box. As for '89 and '90 the wheels are cheap enough for them to swap on and they already have a steering wheel equipped with an air bag for the '90's. Now we need to make sure they get the color combos matching and have a stow a way cloth top hehe.

YIPPEE! Christmas in January lol!

I hate to add a little rain here but this has been discussed over at FEP I believe. One of the GMP guys is a regular over there and got the Twister II 1985 Mustang created.

He has said that Capris are a definite no go. I think he even had a tough time getting the four eyed Mustang made.

The 1993 Cobra sold really well for them so they took that mold and spun off a fair number of 87-93 Mustang variations from it.

It should be easier for them to make the ascMcLaren Mustang from that Cobra mold. You mustang asc guys just need to voice your request through their contact page.

I hate to be the pin, to your balloon, but, it is nice to have a dream.....
In othere words, I really don't think this will ever happen. Companies are in business to maximize profits. Selling perhaps 100 -150 ascMcLaren models would represent a financial loss.
This is the reason that they do not make models of the Bonneville, the Grand Marquis nor the Lincoln Town Car. Not enough buyers.
But it sure would be nice if they made one of the McLarens....

I agree about companies maximizing their profits, but.

1. I've seen many models thru the years of cars/trucks that they made alot less of than ASC McLarens.

2. There were many versions of the '87-'93 Mustang made thru the years, they wouldn't need to change much to create the ASC. (I remember they even made a "Monkee's" mustang novelty model, I know because thats the one I bought to modify into a McLaren.

I already went to the website listed to tell management I'd buy 1 or 2.

Yes, but those are plastic model kits. The GMP line is a high quality die-cast car.

Lets keep reminding everyone to go to the GMP web site and vote. I still think we have a better shot at 87-90 than a Capri (sorry-just the numbers produced). I'd buy any one that came out. They just released a Fox body vert in white at Barrett-Jackson. Very nice. I might have to get one to hold me over until the ASC's are made (grin).

Have you seen/heard the new GMP Ferrari engine that has sound and can be shifted through the gears? Awesome and better if it came in a 5.0 version.
