Just wanted to give you a BIG welcome to group.

Tell us a story, About car #542 it's always fun to hear how you came across your car and the history about it.

You can always repaint the wheels, which issometimes easier and cheaper then founding the right color. Gold is very come and sometimes cheap to be had.

Hi, 03Mach1 & welcome to our little corner of the woods!

I took a look at your car and it's very very nice! It's an early (1988) production ascMcLaren, as told by the 1987 style center console, featuring the cigar lighter that goes into the padded part of the center console. Later 1988s had the lighter re-located IN the ash tray. The white mesh wheels would look great on her. Your interior is called "Light & Medium Titanium Grey" exterior is Keweenau White. Next time you take some shots, how about a rear end shot, too. What's your Dash Plaque # ? Subtract 479 from it to find your sequence of build AT ascMcLaren. With the last 6 digits of your VIN, I can tell you your sequence of build at FoMoCo, where these were all made under a special code, to ascMcLaren Specs.

There is tons of info on the site. Time permitting try & look into each ~ there is a wealth of info here.

hello all. Sandy the plaque number is 542 but i believe it is supposed to be 502 according to the vin 144486? My car is definitely an early one. ford used 87 headlights and mirrors. i wish it had the original wheels though. soon enough i suppose.

story behind how i acquired her.... back in January of this year i was looking for a fox vert and i really like things that are original and stand-outish so to speak. i totally forgot about the mclarens and i was actually looking for a 92 red feature mustang. i was looking at one of my mustang magazines and saw an article about huisman and his mclarens. i showed my wife and said i got to have one they are real rare. i got on-line and saw this one in the mustang trader. the car was located in northern Washington state. anyways, i talked with the nice couple and flew up money in hand, made the purchase and had it shipped down in an enclosed race trailer.

speaking of trailers. anyone know where i can get a good deal on an enclosed 20 footer for car shows?

Hey Mike, it was great meeting you at FFF! Your car looks great and you do this group proud in the respect and care given #542. I hope you get to enjoy it as much as most members on this site apprecaite their cars. Some are drivers, some not and some in between. To each their own, but do enjoy the ride...

Mike welcome to the group or rather family! I remember seeing white ASC wheels for sale not to long ago, they needed to be refinished though. If I remember were I will certainly send you the information.

Nick, thanks for looking out. has anyone seen or had their rims powder coated white. i have never seen the original white. are they just painted?

I am still looking for wheels for you but wanted to post this imt. Check out this place for refinishing wheels. The link is: http://www.fixrim.com/ They seem to be very affordable at $129 for aluminum wheels, chrome is much more at $250 plus but doesn't effect us.

I just got off the phone with them. They use a powder coat/ finish in most cases, I told him how ours are painted in the center and outer lip is aluminum brush so they will be using a powder and clear coat finish. If you have a commercial area and are close by one of their 9 locations across the country they can pick up and drop off the wheels too!!! I have my McLaren in the garage at the house but they are going to make an acception and p-u and d-o the wheels right too me (note to self tip driver). Tomorrow (Friday) is pick up and they should be ready by Monday for drop off. I will keep you posted on how it comes out.

Sure. Since you volunteered, maybe you could start a thread in the welcome area

I think everyone could post in the thread you make with a question for the FAQ and you could copy the info back into the initial post.

I was about to reply how I would be glad to give it a try when I checked out the welcome section for probably the first time since the site started lol.

So it seems this has already been done.

Maybe I could help in another way with a suggestion. Does this newsgroup have the option to manually approve applicants before they can join? This may eliminate the spammers. If so are you able to edit it? Perhaps a brief welcome introduction that asks them a few questions concerning their interest for our safety and well being from spammers since I dont think they are able to input answers to your questions unless they are not using an automated service to subscribe. Anyway how bout something simple like:

"Thank you for your interest in the ASC McLaren, I can assure you this is the most informative place on the World Wide Web pertaining to the ASC McLarens. If you could just share with us how you heard about us and something about yourself like if you are an owner or enthusiast we would greatly appreciate it. Thanks so much and look forward to having you join us."

It may seem a little late, but welcome 03Mach1. I have a 87 ascMcLaren. Speaking of the username we used to have a Zinc Yellow 03 Mach1. Well anyway, welcome.

Mach 1 - it's # 542, but you have to subtract the 479 from 1987 - so...you REAL sequence of build is # 63 !!

Sandy, i thought you had told me a while back that my dash plaque was the wrong one, but if it is the right one that makes me happy that it is correct and somebody at asc was paying attention.

man maybe i should read all of the replies before i ask more questions about the rims. sorry guys for being repetative. Nick thanks for the info. i unfortunately live in a small town, but only a couple of hours from Los Angeles so i will most likely have to drop off the rims. i am very interested to know how they turn out and good luck i'll keep my fingers crossed.

87ASC thanks for the welcome. You guys have already taken most of the cool ASC usernames so mach 1 was just easy to remember. yes i also own a torch red mach. she sits side by side with the mclaren both under expensive car covers that prevent dust from hitting the paint. the wife and i enjoy both cars equally despite the totally different driving experience. (the mach is an absolute rocket) both cars are very occasional driver show-cars. The second owner of the mclaren basically just had her stored for the 16 years he owned it. i basically gave her a little needed tlc from neglect, but not abuse. i'll post some pics of the mach in my album if you guys are interested.
