need help trouble shooting cruise control '88 McLaren

Post by 03Mach1 »

Ok, got some issues with my cruise control and i hate taking my classics two mechanics cause a lot of them don't care about paint jobs. the cruise control stopped working or hasn't worked since i bought my '88. i have checked all of the fuses and everything else on the car works. i have a Chilton's mustang book and can't find anything on trouble shooting in regards to C.C. anyone have any ideas? thanks in advance, Mike

CC Troubleshooting

Post by mustangjim »

Mike,
A very common problem for inop CC is the Horn Contact Relay Plate located behind the steering wheel hub cover. This plate completes the circuitry between the switch & the main harness. The plate is fairly expensive (@ $80), but is easy to replace. Over 80% of CC issues are directly related to the part. Hope the info helps, PM me if you have any questions & please advise.

Best Regards,
Jim

Mustangjim, well my horn doesn't work either. maybe you nailed it on the head. so what you are saying is that the cc buttons are possibly not working because of this plate? if it needs to be replaced this is a ford part or asc?

just to make sure. i'll check the dump valve too. thanks guys-Mike

Mike,
The contact plate is a Ford part. Sounds like you'll kill 2 birds with 1 stone.
