I have an 86 ragtop thats going to the body shop for a paint/ body tune up.
1. getting leaks inside the right windsheild corner into the passanger compartment. will need to pull finder to weld the hole. Also some rust thru under the tonteau into te trunk. and as long as Im there may want to paint the whole car. orif ASC White but wondred if the new ford Oxford white it an option, also the 2007 mustang offers 2 choices of white HP high perm White and YZ oxford white. One of these may be a good choice as I do nort want to change color.
2. What abour Stripes? several ideas come to mind.
A. a 3" rocker stripe (like the mustang) but add the word "ascMcLaren" this would be navy to match the bule interior.
B. Rally stripes down the hood and trunk? this may be too much but wantd an opinion as I do not think they ever came with them.
3. Should I paint the hood vents ? the two in the hood and one at the windsheild? Black , gloss or flat?
Painting my 86- orig ASC/White - looking for some feedback
1. not sure on the whites if i was you i would just use the factory paint code for 86 oxford white
2. i have always wanted to see the ASC coupe stripes on a vert i think that would be cool... blue coupe stripes on your car would be cool to see
i would not put any other kind of stripe on the car other then the coupe stripes
good luck

well coming from a guy who loves stock mustangs (McLarens especially) i would have to agree with tfs2121 on the original paint code. the cars look bitchen just the way they came. however, i do love stripes as well and i think it will look good. you just have to decide on what you want to do with your car. Shows, daily driver, etc. besides who cares what other people think as long as you are enjoying your ride.

Go with the original white, once you are so close (using the same color) you might as well use the exact type. As far as stripes go, I would love to see the rockers done, I am considering it myself. I even thought of using a magnetic strip but even if it was painted exact color of car and then stripes applied it would probably fade differently and look funny. Down the hood I would pass on it, unless you can afford a fiberglass hood and paint stripes on that. Oh lastly to much of a contrast the black vents on the white car. If it were almost any other color I would say use a flat paint of the same color, for example a flat black on a black car or a flat grey on a grey car would look nice. Just think how these cars have evolved, we did away with chrome for the black finish, then we did away with the black for monochromatic colors.
