I hate lowered cars

Post by 03Mach1 »

OK. It's confirmed. My vert was lowered by the original owner who installed the after market wheels. I was clinging to the hope that the low profile tires and larger rims gave it the appearance of being lower than it actually is. I put the original wheels back on the car and confirmed it's about an inch lower than other McLarens (comparing to pictures). Does anyone know where I can get the original springs to bring her back to original ride height. Hank believes they are just stock GT Mustang springs. Can anyone back that up and give me a good location for the purchase. Thanks in advance.

red390gt, yeah I'll let you know. Hopefully I can get them off without damaging them. Most likely shouldn't be a problem. Take a look at my album to make sure it's the height you want. the car is currently sitting on 16 inch wheels with 50 series tires. If you want them you can just pay for the shipping to get them out to ya. I'll pm you when i get the springs off.

You'd have to be a total ape with no brain whatsoever to damage a set of springs in a manner that would cause any issues.

You'll do fine...

Now putting STOCK front springs back in is a total PITA and I don't wish that on anybody.

Make sure you use a good spring compressor to smash those stockers down before putting them in.

I might have a set of stock Fox body springs here in the garage from an 88 that I stripped to do a FFR car (still haven't done the FFR  ), but I'll have to pull my Cobra out tomorrow and look. It's a little on the noisy side for an 11:30 p.m. start up :D

Actually, I'd have to admit that I like the ride height on your 'vert (white one, yes?). I like the wheels too, but if the car is very close to "all stock," I don't blame you for going back to correct. Sweet car in any case!

What kind of wheels are they? 4 lug or 5?

Shiny side Up!

WOW, that's great, thanks I appreciate that.

To get those new springs in will be a pain, just make sure to have a good high quility coil spring compressor and take every saftey precaution, compress them as far as you can safely before trying to place them on the control arm. Every time I have tried to install stock front springs I've been amazed how much I had to compress them, it always makes me nervous working with compressed springs. I once saw one slip out of the compressor and shoot across a repair shop and take a big chip out of a brick wall, if that hit someone they probably wouldn't be here today. Removing the old lowering springs is very easy, they will probably drop right out.

Never changed out coil springs before. I'm taking her to the shop to have it done.

Yeah the car looks good right now but she is totally stock otherwise and that's where i am going with it. The rims are 4 lug WRO's in good condition. They have been on the car since '89. I have a newspaper article that proves that. Hope to have it done soon and I'll post some pics.
