Visulize a big mall, near you. Many advertise "Parking for 2000 Cars" Now, imagine 1,806 of those spaces are filled with Mustang LX V-8 2-Door Sedans, of which 1,346 are black and 460 are white.
A virtual sea of black & white 2-Door Sedan Mustang LX V-8s.

Overpowering, yes? That's what it looked like at Autry Avenue in Livonia with a rail yard coming into it, with all those cars having come off the train cars.

FoMoCo packed the exterior mirrors minus THE mirror,
in the trunk, so that they could be painted in the inside
(part blocked from view, by the actual mirror),
and once painted, ascMcLaren installed the mirror
part and the base to the car.


NOTE:
Cloth Articulated Seats did NOT come in Regatta Blue. Therefore, a car with Regatta Blue (Crystal Blue in 1990) interior was built with Sand Beige cloth covered Articulating Bucket Seats from a Mustang GT.
Everything else inside was the Regatta or Crystal Blue. The Thunderbird headrests, DID come in matching blue and they were installed upon the Sand Beige seats, but the headrests were soft leather-like vinyl.
So,
a car that was Oxford White upon arrival at ascMcLaren had blue interior with Sand Beige cloth seats & blue headrests !

The ONLY variable in that huge lot of cars were 2 things!

1. INTERIOR COLOR
2. TRANSMISSION.

So, when the porter went out to "find" a needed mule, if the needed interior was blue, it was easier, has he only had to look at the white cars and find one with the needed transmission.
However, any other interior color, meant he had to search around the 1,346 BLACK painted cars to find one with the needed interior color of Sand Beige, Scarlet, Titanium (or Opal) Grey, or Ebony Black (1990 Only), and it had to have the "correct" transmisssion.

That is how they all sat, at ascMcLaren, prior to being brought indoors for conversion.
