FYI: black 85 coupe?

Post by eeprete »

In my search for a black 85-86 Mustang GT or Capri RS (would really love an 86 McLaren coupe, but unfortunately cannot afford it right now), I came across this ad on CL in Tampa. YMMV, I don't know if one can accurately know if this is the real deal. I think the car is nice but priced high if one still has to then refind the correct parts.

The seller's "upgrades" look terrible.

Sheesh aeronosed? What an idiot. If it IS an asc it would be like the only ONE of its kind....so WHY would you ruin the front end?

But unless it comes with some VERY convincing paperwork, the buck tag or door sticker....it ain't a McLaren in any stretch of the word.

No wing. Interior is beige. Black car. Missing tons of asc parts.

However...it "looks" like the upholstery does not have the red piping? That is very odd.

For a Capri maybe...but I'm like Sandy. This car never saw the asc factory.

I wish ASC parts, stripe kits and accessories were only sold to people with REAL ASC's... We'd never have this confusion then..

Imagine the normal citizen when they see a car like this, they assume it is an ASC and it may leave a bad taste in there mouth.

sorry all, I didn't know if it was real and was sensing it wasn't. I too agree about wishing they'd restrict the sale of parts to the real owners (and I don't even own one.... yet).

I have ALL 1986 VINS, amd all 1987 thru 1990 VINS. You can feel free to PM me for a VIN check. I can also document the color the car was when it left ascMcLaren, and it's sequence of production. No Fee :D

Thank you for the generous offer Sandy, and will likely take you up on such an offer if and when.

I tell you finding just a clean Capri is proving to be a real exercise in futility, let alone an ASC.

I succumbed to looking at an 85 GT HB, and 86 GT vert this weekend. Both (in my opinion) weren't worth anywhere near their asking prices... amazing how times have changed.

Sandy, I never got a pm, I checked again and it isn't there. I did get one from you asking for more pictures and more information about the options!

Also, I emailed the seller and they updated their add to say that this IS NOT a ASC McLaren, that they just added the parts! :)
