IMPORTANT QUESTION

I have obtained ALL 1,806 - 1987-1990 ascMcLaren VINs.

That said, is there, would there, be any benefit to posting this info?

What might be the negatives?

What is to be gained.....what is to be lost ?

Thoughts appreciated.

1990, 1989 & 1988 would be easy to post. 1987 would be an angry bear to post. ALOT of typing !!!

Well this is a good one!!! Can someone use a number to make a fake like some peoples did with Shelbys???????? It would probably save you a lot of work in the future as you will have much less emails about these cars if the info is allready available. I will post if something comes to my mind.

Regarding the converts, I think everyone can see that making a fake one is about impossible. The jigs that made them have been crushed, and sent to recycling centers. I would not even consider posting COUPE VINS !! :Furious:

People post vins of ascMcLaren verts all the time on ebay....not like there's a shortage to choose from.

I'd hate for some owners to get all mad about it though. Maybe only post the last six digits?

i think you should post a full list of the vins. with the other info you have for each vin. like color top color and build date.

if you need help with posting all the info you can always mail it to one of us online to help you out.

The 85 coupe vin thread in this forum hasn't caused any problems that I'm aware of. I think it's fine to post all of the info, even the coupes.

If you want to be more secure about it:
The secure way to do it would be to create a database of vin #s. Allow someone to enter a vin# and then have it search to see if the entered vin# is located in Sandy's master database, but not display the entire list of vin #s. This would help people validate the vin, without having a list displayed of all the vins.

If joe smith asc mclaren duplicator wants to acquire a vin number, this would be difficult as they would have to properly search and guess correctly.

Negusm...THAT is EXACTLY how I was going to do it, the last 6 digits.

Peter, no ! That is waaay too hard and nearly impossible. Remember, that I have pages and pages and pages and pages and pages....well you get the idea. No can do.

Regarding the coupes...... No - I do NOT feel comfortable posting the coupes, because they can be so easily faked. I do not wish to hand a "faker" a GOOD VIN, to aid & assist him.

IF I decide to do it, I will do 1987 first. A few days later, will tackle 1988.

A few days after that, 1989 AND 1990. Remember....I do NOT have a scanner and I am doing it my hand! Ok !.... by finger !!

Sandy, How is this project going? I remember we touched upon this once before were people were concerned about security. Was it relating to vins and plaque numbers? I may have changed my opinion I don't remember atm but would like to see it done now. Vin #'s should be no threat. As mentioned they are posted all the time when these cars are for sale so they become public information at some point in time. If anyone wanted to be clever they could find two vins of the same year and assume every consecutive vin number in between them are likely also ASC's and do a carfax on the numbers to confirm this theory. Car fax's do not show personal information of the owner just information pertaining to the vehicle itself. License plates are more of a threat because they link the owner to the vehicle and nobody wants an incident to happen at their residence. Any more thoughts on this?

It's been up & posted for almost 2 weeks ~ except for the 1987s, which I have yet to do, due to time constraints, trips to the hospital, to my doctor and to my dentist.

Sandy I would have never guessed that someone would be able to order one of these without an a/c because these cars are pretty high end in luxury. Did you ever come across any ASC's without an a/c, or maybe some other options like cruise control, power windows, power door locks, etc...? Personally I would have loved a car without the cruise control so I could get the sexier steering wheel like the Capri's have.

The person who mentioned this, to me, is long gone from ASC. He was aware of D32 code, which put ALL the options (that did not conflict with the McLaren build), on these mules. However... he did recall "a few" that requested NO A/C. He was NOT SURE that those orders were so made, but guessed that they were, and assumed that they were MANUALLY ordered into the system. If so....yes, they would have been single VINS, not contained within a group build. They would need be ordered by duplicating an exact ascMcLaen build, and omitting A/C.
The McLaren build contained A/C; Am Fm Stereo/Cassette, PW PDL
Fleet Tinted Windshield, Oxford White if a car with blue interior, Raven Black for any other interior color (black, sand beige, scarlet, Grey or white).

So, with his insider knowledge, he was pretty certain that those were Non Air cars. I have never located any of those stand alone VINs but if/when I do, I will certainly ask if it has Air !!
