I have questions please help 88 mclaren

I just bought a 1988 Mclaren Mustang. From what I understand the dash plaque numbering stopped at 1494 in 1988. However my dash plaque reads 1593. Any idea what this means? Thank you.

i think ones that start with 1500 are replacement for a lost one. or that might be ones that start with 1600. im sure sandy or somone will chime in soon

I CAN DO THIS IN MY SLEEP

1987:
001 TO 479 AS 479 Were made.

1989 & 1990 were considered "Series II"
So, they did NOT start over, for 1990.

480 through 1494 as 1,015 were made., f ascMcLaren did NOT start over for 1988, because 1987 & 1988 were considered "SERIES I" !!!

1989 was numbered 001 - 247 as 247 were made.

1990 was numbered 248 to 3OO as 53 were made.

12 units were set aside and numbered 1900 through 1911, being the 12 Silver Anniversary Editions that they going to make AFTER the 53 1990s.

In the end, ONLY 2 were made. # 1904 (Mine

) and # 1907, that is healthy, but with high mileage, and lives in Florida.

I understand the numbering system. Im just curious to know why my car is numbered higher than 1494. since 1494 was the highest numbered 88.

Units bearing Dash Plaques that began with “1,6_ _” (or Sixteen hundred series are “Service Plaques” ~ or replacement plaques sent to persons whose plaques were stolen or fell off and were lost. A few “1,8_ _” (or Eighteen hundred series) may have also been shipped.

thats right out of one of sandys posts. im not sure about this 1500 series. i dont think we have come across any 1500s

maybe its one of the cars that were sold at auction in canada

479 FOR 1987 PLUS
1001 IS YOUR CAR'S SEQ # BEING THE 14TH FROM LAST FOR '88.
479 + 1001 = 1480

Your dash plaque # should be # 1,480

If you want an original with 1480 on it - I can get it for you, but....it IS expensive. !

You purchase an original (blank) from Hank Huisman. When you recieve it - yopu forward it to me. I will send it to the company that engraved them and have it engraved, and then I will sent it to you. It takes about a month.
