new mclaren owner here

hello everyone. just wanted to say hi as i am new to the forum. i just purchased a 1985 asc mclaren coupe with 29k original miles. i have owned alot of fox mustangs but this is my first capri. i drove the car 2 hours home and enjoyed every minute. i live in upstate ny and it will sit in the garage till spring. i look forward to being educated on these wonderful cars

HOLY CRAP

You don't know what you have!
This car was IN my driveway, in New Jersey.
This car formerely belonged to Dave Beesmac or Beesmark ....
He lived in NY & I believe was a Cook at a fancy NY resort.

I think i still have his Tele #. but this was 2 decades or more ago.

This car was 1 of less than 5 made for pre manufacture lent to and shown to the automotive press

See, the indents on the hood? In place of the normal louvers ? Only 4 or 5 cars had them. They were never produced !! These 4 or 5 were hand made.
See the pin stripe, how it goes under the perimeter of the "Scoop" ?
ascMcLaren did that prior to installing the SCOOPS !! (Edit).
2 of the 4 (or 5) did not have the stripe.
Yours is the car lent to Car & Driver Magaxine & featured in it's magazine.

I sat in that car. It's a 5-Speed, with a special short throw shifter from Hurst

I looked it up... 3 THREE were so made with the scoop, each a bit different
ONE CAR HAD THE SPECIAL SCOOP, NO STRIPING
ONE CAR WAS YOURS
ONE CAR HAD THE SCOOP, WITH A SINGLE STRIPE, YOURS HAD THE DOUBLE.

I've always heard there were 10 or so cars made with the scoops, early in the 85 production run, but it they did not continue to install them.

If it was only three, then that means the other two are only about 30 miles apart from each other here in the Cinci area - one is in my driveway and the other is in the garage of the guy I bought mine from.

The figure I was told by ascMcLaren people - at the time - was 3, all dark blue. Post pics of yours !
