Went up to the Mustangs Unlimited Spring Show yesterday with a lot of buddies from Four Eyed Pride. Awesome display of cars, and we had over two dozen four eyed foxes there, many FEP members (and many forum members from here). Overall we all had an awesome time.

For the most part I can care less about car shows and the awards given. The real enjoyment is in the cars, driving them, and enjoying them the way they were meant to be.

Well my gripe is Capris get lopped into some "other category" with the show cars. For all intents and purposes, I Think they should have a "fox 79-86 class, where capris can go up against the other mustangs. SVO's were lopped into this same class (which isn't fair to those owners either).

This class included any Ford product that really didn't have a home, including SVT Lightning's, Focuses, SVO's, Capri's and others.

Do you other Capri/ASC owners feel this same alientation? I realize its hard to anticipate turnout therefore more difficult to figure out classes etc. Does this same stuff happen at the MCA level?

Yeah. Mustangs rule all.

It's just something you have to live with. At least you got the SVOs in your group so people will check them out and you'll get some traffic.

I wish they would segment them by year and brand. So then cars are all over the place. You could hit the years you like the best and skip all the my-money-can-win-me-a-trophy cars (the new cars bought by rich people who have no clue what the car hobby really is about).

Same thing happened to me at the Mustang Show in Myrtle Beach last year. One of the judges told me they decided I was not eligible for an award because i was a "mercury". Did not seem to stop them from giving one to a cobra kit car with a mustang II frame.

Go figure.

That got my goat a little too, Mike.

I am a Mustang and a Capri guy. I've had more Mustangs than Capris but love the Capris deep down more than anything.

Even a general "Other Fox body" class would work. I just think to lump so many together is a disservice to the Capri owners, just as much as it is to the SVT Lightning or Focus owners or the SVO owners. It's no wonder SVO guys frequently express frustration.

I didn't even show my car yesterday, but I felt there were some friends and forum buddies that I felt deserved some sort of recognition for their hard work and effort.

I had much more respect for Varn82's RS Capri than even some of the "new" Shelby cars. He busted his tail to repaint his car himself on a tight budget and the car looked great.

WOW You hit the nail on the head, I run into that problem alot in MI . Try being classed with Mercurys from the 50's

. This is something that Dave N. and I have been trying to deal with here in Mi but with the number of Capri's showing is so small we are running into walls.

I mostly Show just so I have a place to rest and talk LOL

There is strength in numbers. IF you have a decent number of 79-86 Capris just go line up with the Mustangs and keep your mouths quiet.
I have found ALOT of the "professors" in charge at car shows have bee-hines too big for their undiees !

Well, yes, there is strength in numbers. They actually had both the G (79-86) and H (87-93) class park together in the same area and it was the first area to run out of spots (mainly bc of the four eyed cars). I hope this gives them something to think about and they will come up with a little more organized class structure.

Show goers who are interested in 1984 - 1993 Fox bodied cars will also be intrested in 1984 - 1986 Capris. To seperate them is dumb. How many folks do you know who love Firebirds & hate Camaros? NONE ! Yet, there are hoards more Camaros out there, than Capris, so, no harm is done by putting them topgether, although it will be damn hard for a Capri to take any trophy over the "favorite-child" ~ that being a magic name of Mustang.
MOPAR people have the same deal with Challenger & Baracudas....They too are usually put together on show fields.

sorry to confuse you sandy. we did get to have the Capris together in the same general area as the mustangs (until it filled up totally), although they put all 79-93 even though they were too classes (and actually a second class for 87-93 GT). However, they wound up putting SVOs in a total different spot because of their "U class", which to me was very foolish. Put the same generations together and you'll have tons of people learning from each other about the different cars, etc.

Don't tell them it's a Mustang, nor a Capri, tell them it's a McLaren and they'll have to make a special class for McLarens and if there ARE ONLY 3 who show up, you'll all get a trophy !!

I've seen a wide array of different classifications for mustangs and capris. I don't mind being in the '87-'93 Vert class. But I've never understood having a Saleen class, SVO class, and Cobra class - but no McLaren. (I know - numbers)

But on another level of being snubbed, anyone see the latest Mustang Monthly? long article on "45 most notable Mustangs of all time" Yep, nothing. After reading the article I easily saw 5 mustangs chosen the McLaren should've easily been chosen over. (there arguably was some redundency of some of their picks.)

Entered a NATIONAL show in Va. Beach years ago. They let my 88 mclaren go against other third party cars (saleens, roush's, etc), but there was guy with an 85 ASC coupe. He had to stay on the outside band and get judged in the 'others' car class. Pretty unfair as these cars were suppose to be ASC mcLarens and not capri or mustang mclarens.
