NADA price guide

On one hand, I'm very happy NADA has listed the ASC/McLaren's in their old/specialty car price guide (available online).

On the other: where are they getting these values??

They list no options for the coupes (there were a few in 1986) and a HIGH retail value of $6200.

Arrgg! Just when you think the world has noticed, it slaps ya in the chops!

$6200 would probably be right for a "typical" car with 90,000 on the odo, in in so-so condition, needing many appearance items inside & out.

The prices on our cars will not go up, until we drag them out to National Car shows and let people see them. I think hiding them away in the garage's is the worst thing! My feeling is Ford/ Mercury shot them selves in the foot by not advertising and promoting the cars better.

The best thing that could happen would be a reunion of as many cars as we can get at a National Event!

Maybe we can get Dennis Gage and My Classic Car to do a show on Sandy & Mike

NADA has had our cars online for a long time. i only remember seeing verts. do they have coupes now too?

There are many special-interest, low volume cars that have absolutely a miniscule following. Cars that less than 1 out of 500 people ever heard of, nor have ever even seen an example of, that command BIG prices at Barrett-Jackson or at many many other venues. If you are after creating a big demand among the under 20 year old "Hot Rodders" all you will ready do is allow the cars to sell faster (more demand) but not bring very much money.
The Pontiac Grand Prix that were turned into Stutz Blackhawks in Turin, Italy, come to mind. They bring belt-busting numbers. Ever seen one live & in person? (I did, Two!)

What does need to be harped upon is the fact that (like the BlackHawks) that our cars were Ford Factory endorsed, and were specificlly made to the desires of ascMcLaren for further conversion, and are NOT - therefore - "Aftermarket" product. The G.P.s that were destined for Italy came of the American Pontiac GP line with every option, but lacking so much metal trim that they looked seriously goofy. Onto boats they went to Italy. In 1976 $$$ they sold new for $55,000. Today you cannot buy a mint one for that kinda money.

Anyhow, that's my take.

You make some good points Sandy. I still believe that getting the cars
out where folks can see them, can only help the future value.

I also think since you are the moderator, and Mike is the Webmaster that one of you could or should contact Dennis Gage!

Dennis Gage is a Jack---. I met him at a local swap meet and car show a few years ago. Very arrogant jerk in my opinion.

And yes the coupes are listed on NADA.

Sandy, you are so right. People do buy cars! Dennis Gage is an
arrogant jerk. That does not make us bad people for wanting to use
his TV show to make people aware of some cool cars that were built.

Sandy, makes a very good point about insurance that has been discussed on the site before. Grundy or Hagerty stated value policy is the only way to go with these type of cars. I don't care what
some book say's a car is worth. I would not take less than 25k for my car.

Where are you going to find a car that will run over 130 mph, gets
20 mpg, has the ability to wear antique license plates.

I'm will be going with Grundy here shortly.

Had this picture taken yesterday while heading up to a FEP meet. I need to get my side skirts and rear lower back on. Well after they are repaired and painted.

The picture was taken be another FEP member who drives a very nice black 85 Saleen #115.

86capriasc, that's a nice looking example. Of course, being Sandy-Stocker, the window air foils, U.S.P.O. hood letter slot would go on retirement, and the wheels might stay, as I really admire how they look, if only to "save" the OEMs. But really she looks terrific and shows alot of care and pride.

I'm not really sold on this hood bulge yet either. But for now I can swap the other one back on if I choose. When she gets restored I will go back to the original flat hood.

Drive it you say, I drive the snot out this thing.
