engine very odd

Post by 86capriasc »

So I pulled the heads off the original motor from my car. But to my surprise it has valve reliefs in the pistons..ford part#E7ZE-6110-CA.
But it has the E6SE heads on along with Ford stamped head gaskets. and By the condition of the motor it looks to be original to the 96,000 mile it had on it when pulled. Remember I bought this form the original owners kid who only had it a short time. There is a lot of carbon buildup on the pistons
and the motor is real nasty on the outside.

I did a quick measurement on the cam with my dial indicator and I came up with .432 lift measuring of of the lifter in the number one cylinder.

.270 X 1.6= .432"

I will try to get a more accurate measurement on the cam with a degree wheel. Does the balancer have to be mounted on the crank to use the degree wheel or can I just bolt it straight to the crank to get my TDC?

When was your car built at Ford?

Not sure when the E7 pistons would have shown up in production. Odd that they would do them in 86.

No idea when it was built I don't think I ever found that out.

Can you post the casting numbers from the block, heads and intake manifold?

Your door tag will have the build date.

Where would the casting number be on all of the above?
I cannot read my door tag it is too faded.

Not sure. I have heard it is near the starter on the block.

Also the last 6 digits of the vin should be stamped on the pad at the top back of the block.

I see no vins stamped on that pad and the motor is way to nasty right now to really get a good look at it so it will have to wait a little longer.

It will be stamped very very lightly. The pad has to be perfectly clean and you need the light just right to read it.

I had one 86 capri that had the same thing. E7 (87) pistons, but 86 heads. Never did research it before I sold the car to see whether is was a short-block replacement from Ford's warranty or a late model 86....
