'89 Radio Wiring question

My '89 has the stock Ford premium sound system. The radio is just about non-functional, so I purchased a Sony to go in. I got the harness kit (nothing will be cut during the install). The left front door speaker doesn't work and it appears some wires in the stock Ford dash harness are missing. It appears to be a factory amp mounted on the trans tunnel behind the stock radio. Any thoughts on why all 6 speakers work when the stock radio is plugged in, but not when the new radio is plugged in? I'm going to recheck the harness kit.

My aftermarket radio only plays thru the Recaro seat speakers. Can't get it to play thru the rest. I suspect I'll (someday) have to take it to someone with the right expertise to get it fixed.

Z? I'll look at my notes this weekend. If impedance (sp?) is correct speakers should work.

Thanks. I did look at the conversion harness the installer made and he tied the blue wire to the blue/white pair. I'm thinking thats the problem. I'll call and ask him today. I was going to pull the radio out and try it, but I couldn't release the 4 lock points.

is the factory amp still in place? and still wired to the car? if you have an after market amped radio it cant run through the factory ford amp. you have to plug into the main stero harness of the car. those plugs are behind the heat and ac controls they will look like the conectors that come out of the factory radio, they are one black and one gray. hope this is helpfull

Yes, still has the factory amp. From what I have been reading, it is best to bypass the factory amp with a wiring kit. I'll order one this week.

yes it is best to bypass the factory amp, one plug is for the power to the radio the other is for the speakers the front dash speakers and the door speakers are wired together , one set for left one set for right side then the others are right and left rear, you can get a color code for the wires and where they go from cruchfield web site, they give you radio wireing for all year cars
