Just Purchased 1987

Post by darkhorse40 »

Sandy was a great source of info, so I thought this would be the best place to document the work on my 1987. I hope to get some vids on youtube also.

I purchased it on 02-14-2010 for $1800.00. It had been recently painted, but apparently fell on it's owner, thus the reason for him selling it (at a real bargain for me) and not being able to complete the job. I did not get all of the parts.

THe previous owner changed it from white to IROC blue, and included two gallons of each color with the car. He did a great job painting it but the bumper was not properly fit to the right front quarter. Also side moldings, spoiler and skirts are missing, as well as having a cheapo lx nose installed.

I'd probably be looking to buy the missing parts used if anyone has any of them.

Lots of interior parts are missing too, but not so many that I can't make the car streetable. I don't think he gave me the right seats either. The top has seen better days also, and I do not have the retractor motor.

I will post pics as soon as I reduce the resolution.............JL

Good luck with your new car. Enjoy it. Seats are just mustang seats recovered by ASC. Covers are available. But not cheap!!

What are you referring to when you say "Retractor Motor"?
The motor that pulls down the big screw at the middle of the lower hem of the top, goinginto the reciever hole, on the tonneau cover? They are available.

Yes, the screw thing. They are expensive, aren't they?

This look a lot like a power window motor. Maybe the screw system can be fitted to certain model of window motor. If it was mine I would give a try.

The latch motors in the Capris are actually late 80's / early 90's Cadillac trunk pull down motors and are readily available for a small fraction of the cost from Hank. You can search this sight for threads on the topic, like the example below. HOWEVER, the ones in the Mustangs are different, but I believe still GM sourced and thus also readily available.
