When the key is placed in the on position. is the fuel pump supposed to pressurize the system and then turn off, or remain running, until the engine is started.

I have pressure at the fuel rails, but no guage to know what psi.

I also have spark.

Code reader gives no reading, but when activated with the key in the on position, the fuel pump whirs mometarily as if the the car was just initialized.

when you turn the key on the pump should run for about 3 sec. then shut off. once the PCM picks up a signal from the pickup in the dist. it will turn the pump on. the signal from the pickup tells the PCM the engine is cranking or running.
