Orange wheels

I always thought something was strange about this car and then I realized that these wheels aren't for sale from Hank.

While they look great, they are not original, are they?

Orange wheels do exist but not exactly like those. They are not the original ones. The center is not the same and the polished rim is too wide. Look at Sandy's coupe he has the orange wheels.

I don't think the front air dam and lights are correct either. Sure different than mine!

In most all examples, (Especially the coupes) none are 100% original.
They usually stay 100% original for about 90 days.

I am okay with under hood up-grades, but interior/exterior/wheels/paint/stripes being altered I.M.H.O. should be done on a Capri RS (changed in 1986 to "5.O" and no longer "RS".

The wheels appear to be ARE's with the centers redone in orange. You see these available used quite often, typically with black centers.

The airdam looks like a regular RS unit.

Neither are asc pieces.

I would like to find a set of AREs in black with outer faces left natural (aluminum) to put on my 85.

I know some of you will cringe when you read that, but at least, I have no desire to paint my original wheels black.

Since the top on mine has been changed from tan to black, I think the all black exterior would look good.

In fact, I think it should have been offered as an optional color theme.

Could not tell if your ASC 'Vert has the lt. grey OR the Sand Beige interior. With the Sand Beige I can see the Gold Rims, but with light gray I can better see black rims. But, being that you're top is black.....YES, black mesh and silver rim would look really good.

Check FEP, they get listed there quite often.

Your vert looks just like mine did wen I bought it, except you have a nice cloth black top. Mine was a worn out vinyl. When I had to replace it, I switched it back to the tan cloth. Nice looking car.

It looks a lot better from ten feet away than up close.

I had already checked these three listings out. The ones on FEP sold within hours of being listed.

There is a set here in Iowa with a few blemishes that I may grab.

My convertible is an 85.

According to the color code on another thread for the 84-86 roadsters, the Jet Black exterior could only be had with a sand beige interior in 85. The charcoal grey interior & black top on the black cars were not available until 86.

Thanks for the refresher course. I had 2 hours in hospital, for a refresher course in Chemo. For like 24 hours, alot gets erased from the brain - then it starts trickling back - slowly.
So much snow in Jersey - every day or 1 day after a breather & then more.
I am so sick of it, to date we have paid the snow plow guy $300 in 3 weeks ! Another "event" tomorrow night. Hows it in Iowa ?

Here in Iowa we got zapped a year ago about like the N.E. is this year.
So far we have ecaped most of it this winter, just kind of cold!

As far as the refresher course, thanks to you & others that data is available for all of us to refer to & learn from.

After reading this thread, I was a little disappointed in how our cars seemed to be "Picked" apart by so-called ASC McLaren "Enthusiasts" on this site, so I thought I would post this up for the "Subject Matter Experts" we seem to have here. I would also recommend reading Mike Negus' very well written dissertation on the Eurocoupes as well.

The Eurocoupe models were known as a "Decontented" versions from the "Full Package" cars built by ASC in 1986. Decontented meant thy received a few less options vs the FP counterparts, primarily No radar detector or leather seating and a few minor exterior options. EC's only got a 1/8" pinstripe on the body belt molding vs the 1.5" wide ASC stripe. EC's sold for $810 less than the FP versions.

As for my car, and depending who you ask the air dam has been a point of contention, from my understanding, ASC ran short of the air dam used on EC #1-12, starting on #13, they utilized the type on mine. I see no evidence that this is anything other than the original dam & the fog lights and have no receipts of an RS airdam (or any other body parts) in my extensive documentation. I guess it could be possible that the original owner had them installed by Northe-Towne LM that sold this car originally. I had spoken to several EC owners who confirmed this. It appeared that ASC's assembly people used what was available at the time of assembly and many EC's have different configurations of their cars. Mine also has the Dark Grey piping on the seats where earlier built cars have red piping. It also has the ASC McLaren Leather horn pad, Leather Wheel, Leather T-Handle and the Satin Black switch covers {All of which were not supposed to be installed on a Eurocoupe}.

As for the wheels, several years back, The original OZ wheels and many more I have seen exhibit a lot of corrosion under the painted & mounting surfaces and I could not see paying $1600 for a set sans tires. I decided to install the ARE's that are on it as shown, I bead blasted them, polished the lips and custom painted the wheels then installed new ARE centers and created new emblems for them along with the new Falken ZX512 tires as the OE BF Goodrich Comp T/A's are no longer in production. I like the way the ARE's look and seem to run truer than did the OZ wheels.

I also made replacement emblems for the 1/4 windows other than that the car is how I purchased it 12 yrs ago. The only other items I've installed over the years is a new Motorcraft battery, a brake light switch and a set of mufflers/down pipes.

My personal opinion is that ALL ASC's are a very special automobiles that unfortunately have not been recognized by the collector market, now that many of our cars are now 25 years old you would think the market would start to realize their true rarity, but in a soft market we still wait for vindication.
