1985 on Ebay

Post by Kentennis »

Sandy,

Take a look at the top on the '85 red roadster listed on Ebay. Biggest back windows I've ever seen!

1985 ASC McLaren Mercury Capri Convertible

Up for auction is a beautiful and rare ASC McLaren Convertible. This is a 5.0 V8, 5-Speed car. Just over 21,000 original miles! This car has been owned for the last several years by a car enthusiast who took great care of it. The car runs & drives beautifully. Recent complete repaint (under hood, door jambs, trunk, etc.) of the original Porsche Guards Red color. The repaint was expensive and of high quality, the car looks fantastic! The tan top is free of rips or tears. The Tan Leather Recaro seats were completely reupholstered as well. Factory 140mph speedometer. Recent full tune up. Tires and brakes are great. Car needs nothing, just get in and drive!!

The 1985 asc ebay ad referenced by FoxChassis appears to have the original stock contvertible top.

It's not a bad car, other than the rear picture-window !
Why is it that ascMcLaren owners will NOT buy new-old-stock, identical roofs to what the car came with ??? :?: :?: :?:
Sandy passed away in 2012. He will be forever missed.

I got a reply from the seller. It is a replacement top, before he got the vehicle. I thought maybe they had just replaced the windows. But no. The whole top.

There are 2 red 1985 asc McLarens for sale on ebay. The one referenced by FoxChassis does not appear to be an after market replacement top, however the other car does not have the correct stitching and looks to be an over sized replacement on the plastic windows.

People were just asking? Would have been nice if you could have responded to Mike with a link to the car in question. Oh well, I guess some people are just inclined to be bullies and think they know everything there is to know about cars they do not even own...

Let me apologize to you dahberg.

Have to admit: I don't know HOW to post a link from Ebay to this thread.

Maybe you grew up with computers, but I didn't get my first one till I was in my 60's, 10 years ago. I am self taught. I use it mainly for keeping in touch with the family and for my investing.

You have no idea of how long it took me just to teach myself how to post pictures.

So, once again, my apologies for not being up to ypur standards.

And when I posted the first post, there was only 1 for sale. It was in New Hope, Pa.

When you see an ebay ad, use your mouse and highlight the text in the address bar.

Right click with your mouse on it, a pop up menu will appear (this is true of any text you highlight on the system).

Choose "copy" with a left click.

Right click on the text box where you are typing text to post here.

Left click on "paste".

You link is in your post. Now just submit it to ascmclaren.org

I'm sorry Mike, but something is not explained. Something like, 'How can I be in Ebay and 'post' to another site, such as ASC?"

Do I need 2 windows open at the same time?

I went to Ebay, followed the directions and nothing went anywhere. I was still in Ebay wondering, "How do I get this to ASC?"

For people that use computers all the time, and do it all the time, anything is simple. For those like me, it's not explained clearly enough. We get to a certain point and wonder, "Now what do I do?"

Hope it worked. And if it did, it's because you need both windows open!

Are the Recaro seats standard on the 85 (I'm new at this stuff)?

yes
Recaro seats were standard for 84-85. They became optional in 86-88. Then dropped mid 88. None installed for 1989 or 1990.
