This is a nice car, being sold by a person who has not a clue. It's a "BIVOUAC" ~ very few were made. It's a predacesor to the ascMcLaren, but had nothing to do with it. It was made by an out of business company from Michigan. They came ony in red or dark grey. This is a very well kept example. This car was on e-bay for sale last Autumn (2004). It was then in Arizona, now in NJ.

Nope, I am wrong. I corresponded with the owner. It's a nicer car, much nicer car, than the Arizona example. Totally different car. Seems like a nice owner, too. I invited him over here to visit.

Guys,

This town in less than 30 minutes away from me. If anyone is serious about buying and wants me to drive over an examine it, let me know.

A little background. Bivouac was a company headquartered in Vandalia, Michigan whose business was manufacturing motorhomes. The owner, Scott Chapman saw an opportunity when the all new 1979 Mustang came out in Sept. 1978. He saw that a convertible was lacking and he could visualuze how good it would look. Unknown (to me) person or persons designed the car and Bivouac manufactured it. They came only in Burgundy Metallic, Bright Red or Medium-Dark Grey Metallic. Where the rear seat had been was a custom-made storage box, made like a chest, even complete with chromed chest-type clamp style closures. They were all built upon the top of the line LX 2-Door Sedan. Most were 6 cyl., however there were also the 255 Cu In V-8 in very early cars, and some 302s. 90% were 1982s, a few 1981s and 1983s have been seen or heard of. When Ford brought out the 1983 Mustang Convertible, it immediatly killed off any sales of the Bivouac. It's unknown exactly how many were made, but I've heard it to be around 300 to 400. This the 3rd one on e-bay in a year, and by far this one is the nicest.
Peter Muscat must have been watching, as less than a year later, the first ascMcLaren Capri 5.0SC was made. Basicaly he omitted the rear seat treasure chest, for a Mercedes style platform with storage compartments, and slanted back the windshield, to the Bivouac design.
There never was an "ascMcLaren KIT" ~
