1982 McLaren Prototype

Post by 1982McLaren »

Letter from Peter Muscat stating:

“1982 Mustang Sport Elegance, Vehicle VIN 1FABP10F8CF157359. Was assembled at Jubbu Designers between 1982-1983. This vehicle was the 4th out of 7 prototype engineering cars used in the development of the 1984-1986 limited production ASC Capri Convertibles which later became the 1987-1990 ASC McLaren Mustang Convertible.

A side note states that only 5 ‘prototypes’ still exist at the time.

The letter also states that this car started with a stock 1982 5.0 H.O with 4 speed transmission. The interior was black suede with a production-like McClaren center council, early Capri door panels and pulls, and custom low back Mustang Seats with speakers mounted in the headrest. The exterior was black with gold 1982 GT rims on Avion rubber with ½ inch gold bump guard stripe.

Since its original build, the car has gone through a few updates before its most recent ‘show’ restoration/rebuild of the drive-train components, body paint refinish, and interior (which was restored with black leather trim).

Drive train components include: 393CID Ford Windsor V-8 with Chuck Nyuten Holly Custom Shop Carburetor, Vortech S-Trim Supercharger, T-5 5 Speed Manual Transmission, Tubular A-Arm front suspension, and Griggs torque arm.

I’ve included some photos of the vehicle and will be sure to touch base later on!

Wow, the prototype looks incredible. Do you have any photos from its early days? It would be neat to see a side-by-side comparison.

As of now, I have some resto-photos of when the top was being installed. I'm checking with some of the people who appraised the car and who might have been involved in the build to see if they have any extra photos/docs.

Very interesting. This is a topic that has stirred up a lot of controversy over the years. Sandy would have loved to see the car.

I'm sending you a PM.
